Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

The reason for the news conference is obvious. His address from the Oval office the other night was pretty bad. Mistakes of basic fact, lethargic delivery.

Even conservative media have been critical of that speech.

So this is a redux. An opportunity to fix the weak impression he gave last time.

Problem is, as we all know, he will lie a bunch more today and this weekend.
I wish he would say..... screw it..... we are having basketball

Nice job, Donald.

Silly science. Just get Pence to pray it all away.

I ran the White House pandemic office. Trump closed it.

"When President Trump took office in 2017, the White House’s National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense survived the transition intact. Its mission was the same as when I was asked to lead the office, established after the Ebola epidemic of 2014: to do everything possible within the vast powers and resources of the U.S. government to prepare for the next disease outbreak and prevent it from becoming an epidemic or pandemic.

One year later, I was mystified when the White House dissolved the office, leaving the country less prepared for pandemics like covid-19.

The U.S. government’s slow and inadequate response to the new coronavirus underscores the need for organized, accountable leadership to prepare for and respond to pandemic threats."

What was that office actually doing?

Go to the Trumputin thread. I quoted volprof's last post. It was on July 22, 2017. He had 51 posts on July 21, and his last post the very next day. He joined 10/26/11 and left us 7/22/17. RIP.

Ok, thanks. I knew (to me) that it had been awhile. Seems like a longer time frame.

Ummm... so you're saying you DON'T want government intervention and coordination to combat the virus, huh?

That is not what I'm saying.

I'll type slower so that you'll understand (maybe).

You are bitching about how the government is running this schit show and on the other hand you want the government to run everything.

How does that work in your brain?

Trump struggles to explain why he disbanded his global health team

It's worth emphasizing that this is Trump's second explanation related to his decision to disband his global health security team. "I'm a business person," he explained two weeks ago in response to a similar question. "I don't like having thousands of people around when you don't need them. When we need them, we can get them back very quickly."

Heh. Mkay. I agree that the Gubment shouldn't be in the business of running everything. But in this case, yes, it should.

Campaign adds will be brutal. The cries of "foul" will be deafening, claiming his actions are being politicized, during/following a time of crisis.

That sounds reasonable and I bet other departments overlap..... we need to stop wasting so much money on all these different departments.

He blamed his poor performance on the teleprompter. His problem is when he starts to talk he inevitably slips in to campaign mode and sht starts tumbling out.

Sure. Why not. Eliminate NIH while you're at it.

Goofy science nerds.

Make em drop and give you 20 too.

Redundancy and inefficiencies are hallmarks of government. This was probably just a few people with titles. There is NIH and CDC and who knows what else that are already under the HHS Dept Secretary, who is on the cabinet and directly report to the President.
