Coronavirus (No politics)

I have not seen this in medical reports. Older/frail people are always subject to problems after critical illness, especially if requiring intubation, vent support, etc.

The reports I read a while ago discussed residual issues in recoveries of prime age patients, not so much the elderly. Reports were originally from chinese medical folks but I’ve looked at western medical opinions reviewing some of that same data and their responses seemed somewhat alarmed. I really hope recovery follow ups can provide more data on this as a big question seemed to revolve around how much of the new health damage was caused by the treatments utilized or by the actual virus.

I’ve lost count of the sheer number of documents I’ve read since this broke in January but I’ll see if I can find those again.

One of my co workers came in to work this morning with the flu smh at least I hope it’s just the regular flu his kid has it. I’m so pissed I’m like stay home don’t spread that around the workplace of course he has no sick hours and can’t lose the day of pay he said that’s the problem here in the workforce in this country and why this virus will keep spreading. I got a flu shot last fall hope I don’t get it.

Wash your hands like a maniac with soap and warm->hot water, lathering long enough to sing through Happy Birthday to You twice (this is what hand-washing for disease protection means, not a rub, rise, and dry.) If you have Clorox or Lysol wipes, wipe down things like light switches, phones, keyboards, office microwave, other things that get touched a lot. And ask him to stay away from your area (general recommendation is 2 meters/ 6+ feet, the distance that cough and sneeze droplets travel.)

Yep already told him very few people work here so I’m side by side with him most of the day unfortunately but I got the hand sanitizer on the ready I just don’t know what all he is touching. I told him you need to go get tested for the coronavirus virus like ASAP. He hates doctors though and won’t go unless he is dying.

Riot police called after university students take to campus streets following closure announcement

The University of Dayton in Ohio announced on Tuesday that it is suspending all classes and closing all on-campus housing amid coronavirus fears. Online courses will commence after spring break. Within hours of the announcement, hundreds of students had gathered on Lowes Street on the campus and police were called. Officers in riot gear attended the scene and shot pepper balls at students, according to student-run publication Flyer News.

Now do, can it be contagious for 14 to 21 days before showing symptoms?
No, I don't know of any respiratory virus that is contagious for that long before causing symptoms, including Coronaviruses. I believe you are getting incorrect information if you have read that.

I think that is the biggest thing. People aren't thinking about others even if they have PTO time, they just don't want to use it on sick time and save it for vacation if their sick and vacation time are lumped into one. I'm very grateful now that I can work from home, so when I was sick in December, I stayed home and worked.

I hope it is wrong. This is the most alarming thing I've read about this stuff, that is if it's true.

This was stories out of China early on and I've not ready anything since that has disputed it.

I did see if you work for Walmart and get this you get to stay home for two weeks with pay and not have to use your PTO or sick time. So it seems buisnesses are willing to help. I'm sure for a smaller buisness this would be tougher to do.

Quoted from peer-reviewed UpToDate:

In a study of 1099 patients with confirmed symptomatic COVID-19, the median incubation period was four days (interquartile range two to seven days).

Using data from 181 publicly reported, confirmed cases in China with identifiable exposure, one modeling study estimated that symptoms would develop in 2.5 percent of infected individuals within 2.2 days and in 97.5 percent of infected individuals within 11.5 days. The median incubation period in this study was 5.1 days.

For comparison, the average incubation for influenza is 1-4 days, symptoms usually occurring within 3-4 days of exposure. Virus shedding usually ceases around 6-7 days, but it can last as long as two weeks or more in children, elderly, and immunocompromised patients.

It’s a fine line. I work for myself. Only make real money if I see clients face to face and in court with them. I won’t go to work if I feel terrible, but...I will go if I feel ok enough. Also, it depends on if someone (like a judge) is expecting to see me. Just depends on what you do.
