Coronavirus (No politics)

My parents are flying to Paris on Wednesday. Obviously I’m concerned.
What would you all do if you were in their situation, go or cancel?
Dad is 87 mom is 76
Just an update on my parents Trip.

Itinerary
Leave to France March 11-April 23 (they have an apartment in Paris as a second home)
They signed up for some type of cultural tour in Morocco between March 19-29.

So my dad said he will call the tour company to see if the Moroccan tour is canceled, if it is they won’t go at all, fingers crossed.
I have a major surgery on April 28 and they want to be here so I can stay at their place while I recover. They are worried about not being allowed back if things get bad.

Thanks for everyone’s input, I’ll keep you updated.
So my parents cancelled their trip to Europe, they were supposed to leave tomorrow.
I am so relieved they aren’t going.
They were able to get a credit on their round trip Delta flight to France but they aren’t able to get a credit for the 10 day tour to Morocco, so they are out $4000.00 unless it gets cancelled before March 19.

Probably a good call.

I had a doctor tell me last night that you may not trust the Chinese. But you can trust the reporting in South Korea, and their numbers have gone down drastically as well.
Then that’s a relief.

Add MIT to the cancelled on campus class list. All undergrads have to be moved out of their dorms by Tuesday.

For healthy people this isn't as dangerous as it's being portrayed. Certainly it is serious, but ebola it is not. Be smart and practice a sanitary regiment like normal flu precautions.

My cousin has a friend who lives in Italy who is 35 had it he has recovered but he was in critical condition for 5 to 6 days and on a ventilator so it doesn’t just effect the older people.

A lot of precautions being taken to prevent the spread of the coronaviras.
Would be interesting to see if cases of the flu have declined, especially in some of the areas that have taken the more drastic actions.

It’d be interesting to know if there are now any new residual health issues cropping up after recovery. Some reports have documented damage to various organs, heart, lung and kidneys after recovery.

The coronavirus is scary. But health officials insist the vast majority of people who contract it will experience no more than the equivalent of a bad cold
.
Majority. There's always a few that are worse than others

Probably a very smart decision on their part.

So far in Indiana's 6 confirmed cases 2 of them are high school aged kids

I have seen some scary projections along the lines of "What will the mortality be in the U.S. if 20% or more of the population becomes infected?" At even 1%, that would be around 600,000 deaths.

However, the rate of new cases in China has declined significantly, and there are only around 80,000 confirmed cases there. In other words: in a country FAR more densely populated and without the level of resources afforded in the U.S., only about 0.005% of the Chinese have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Perhaps we should pump the breaks on the Doomsday predictions.
Very hard to go by any numbers out of the communist nation that is responsible for this.

Edit: Even if the numbers are correct, look at the steps they went through. Quarantining entire cities of 70+ million and spraying cities/buildings with god knows what.

I'm going by the WHO report. They sent a team there to study the illness. Obviously, there could be a discrepancy and they've burned hundreds of thousands or millions of bodies, but I just can't buy into that kind of nonsense.

I have not seen this in medical reports. Older/frail people are always subject to problems after critical illness, especially if requiring intubation, vent support, etc.
