Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

All the other items I can understand but why are people buying bottled water? This is a virus that doesn't even take out half the population nothing is going to happen to the water supply.

Possible reasons water supply could be affected:

1)Treatment facility employees may be quarantined which could possibly diminish water supply.
2) chemicals for treating water... where are they produced? If from China or India, don't expect to see shipments of those products for a while.
3)sars traveled through pipes. If covid-19 can do the same, it means that locally, water sources could be contaminated.

Question for any of the doctors or medical professionals on the site, how important is the testing when there is no actual cure for the virus? Wouldn't you be limited to treating symptoms no matter what? What kind of treatment are we looking at? I assume fluids for hydration and blood panels to monitor vital organs. What else? And if you're a doctor and a patient shows up with symptoms of coronavirus, in the absence of a test, wouldn't you air on the side of caution? I can't help but wonder if people are blowing the test thing out of proportion. People with no symptoms, or with mild cases, probably aren't going to show up for testing. So that leaves the severe cases who are going to need medical help, which by that point, test or no test, wouldn't you still be limited to treating symptoms?
The test thing is being blown out of proportion big time. The health dept is only testing those who are suspected with travel history and after flu and other stuff has been ruled out. If there are actual symptoms the patients are treated like any other airborne/droplet isolation patients. Literally not a big deal

Trump slurperism.

The reason to do tests is not to give a cure. It's to tell the person to take steps not to infect others.

This has nothing to do with Trump
You may want to tell Trump that.
I just saw were Trump said "the tests are perfect, like the letter was perfect, the transcript was perfect....

I also saw were Trump said he wants to keep the people on the cruise ship and not let them in our country because he likes the "numbers" were they are and he doesn't want to see them go up by having to count them.

He and his administration have made it about him by their ineptitude, lying, and ostrich head in the sand mentality. Utterly irresponsible.

Isn’t the proper steps to not infect others the same for damn near every communicable virus?

Yes but for the flu we have a vaccine and treatment experience. This seems magnitudes worse, at least in the near term.

Trump seems to be irrationally dismissive of the reality. Because he worries it reflects poorly on him. The fact of the virus has nothing to do with Trump. But his leadership on it has been pathetic and counterproductive.

Pump the brakes and let the adults handle this.

I don’t care what Trump or anyone else says about the politics of it.

A person with common sense would say leave the boat out there and let the virus run its course as opposed to bringing a new source of the virus ashore. But I get it, orange man bad.

It's so true and sad that people of the left are advocating for widespread cases of this. Sick sick individuals. To blame the president for a disease that originated in China from possibly things they were eating tells me the left is not interested in coming together in a time like this.

Just going by what you said in your first two sentences. Your either a Bernie bro or septic bro possibly both

Dude, you're out of your element. Taking this virus seriously and realizing that the response has been bungled from day one does not mean I'm a socialist or any other form of Democrat voter.

Haha, you’re inviting me to the climate change thread? I don’t know if the residents will appreciate that...

Tbh I’ve spent far too much time debunking the same conspiracy theories and talking points that recycle through all the climate change threads. It’s a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. But if you have a specific question or two and are looking for good-faith discussion (not just trolling) I’m happy to join the fun for a bit. I’m under quarantine the next two weeks so should have some free time!
No not inviting. I'm alerting you that this thread isn't about Climate hoax and not to post that stuff in here.

Thanks,
VN

There are 240 known cases. You have no facts to back up to stupid assertion. By this logic the same couple be said about the 30k people who died last year from the flu.

Yeah -- so really, the test only helps with monitoring the spread of the virus and determines if a person warrants prolonged quarantine. I suppose that in a critical case, a positive result might suggest the use of a trial antiviral, but that's not really in my wheelhouse.

As far as patient outcome, the test is useless. It's kind of like testing kids for RSV -- the treatment is supportive and based on symptoms, and a positive result doesn't change anything.
