Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

There are testing kits but they have never been “mass produced” although that is being worked on mainly because companies want to make money on them from idiots. The CDC and local health departments have A decent amount but morons like these western state nurses believe every person everywhere should be tested. They are only testing people with symptoms who have likely factors (i.e. travel to one of the 4 countries) for the virus and only after flu and other things have been ruled out.

Some of the largest level 1 centers in America don’t even have test kits to rule out patients being put on Echmo. There is definitely a test kit shortage problem, especially since we’ve had months of warning.

The test kits are coming but test kits don't cure any disease. Regardless of the results, the treatment is the same: stay home, drink lots of fluids, preferably juices fortified with vitamins, and get lots of sleep. This is the same as if it's the flu or the common cold. There is no Rx for coronavirus. It's not like if we catch this early and get you on this med, it'll be cured faster.

More testing is key to reducing subsequent infections of others

It’s impossible to be proactive if you don’t actually have correct, up-to-date information.

The health depts are doing them mostly. Most level 1 trauma centers do have some but the hospitals that don’t have Labcorp contracts and do their own tests probably don’t. But that’s on them

I can only speak to my local level 1 trauma centers in Pittsburgh, but they are having to ship their ICU rule-out tests to the CDC and waiting 1-2 days for results. So at least in western Pennsylvania, it’s false that the largest hospitals have testing on hand.

Sounds like the health depts aren’t doing what they are supposed to there.

Want to have some fun and see what the media has created?

Go to Costco, buy bottled water and toilet paper, it's hysterical.

I don't get it.

I'm not so sure about that. I think equal precautions should apply to people with the flu

Its blatantly obvious that more testing is critical. While I'm not blaming the president or the administration so much for the initial slow response on that, at this point the ineptitude is just mind boggling. One cannot help but wonder whether Trump's wish it away mentality is causing this inexcusably poor effort now.

I went to Costco this morning. Everything looked normal except for everyone taking 15 minutes to clean their buggy.

Pallets and pallets of bottled water/TP with the aisle so crowded by DA's with carts full that you can't get through so you have to go around.

Worse than the buffet line on Mother's Day brunch.

I tried to find soap to refill my dispensers and some rubbing alcohol this morning. Sold out.

My Costco has always had an entire aisle of toilet paper, paper towels and water. Almost every cart in the store has some of each. The only abnormal thing I saw was pallet loads of Clorox wipes.

Anybody currently surprised by empty store shelves wasn’t paying attention over a month ago when going ahead and getting supplies was discussed in detail on here due to the predictions of a public panic response causing out of stocks and price increases.

Seriously, this country panic buys over short duration storms so it was a no brainer that faced with the possibility of long duration quarantines due to a highly contagious virus skipping around that shelves would empty quickly.
