Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

We had a tornado pass close to my house a few years ago..it just happened to be when I had all the aluminum siding torn off the house and was getting the outside ready for the vinyl siding I put back. Walls were just OSB with Tyvek homewrap and new cheap vinyl windows. Got the alert on TV so I got the wife and kids downstairs, turned the couches around back to back in the middle of the living room about 2 feet apart and had them crouch down there to pray. I threw blankets over the top of our little fort in case the windows broke. We could hear the storm outside...very loud wind gusts. I remembered all the stuff outside so I left them there between the couches and went outside to round up all of the would be flying projectiles that was a Uhaul full of aluminum siding. I got it all together in a couple of piles and put heavy objects on top (gas grill on it's back, etc) and hurried back inside while the hailstones beat the fool out of me. We huddled down there and prayed a little. Kept the lady and kids calm until the storm had passed us by. Other than car dents and a few torn shingles, we were unscathed. Just a mile or 2 from my house there was a real mess, though. Twister had downed trees everywhere and really torn up some houses pretty bad. We were very blessed that we did not fall in the direct path.. all that I cared about was the wife and kids not getting hurt. I rented a Uhaul and took all that siding to scrap. Think it was 400 something dollars. Crazy weekend. Go Vols

He11 yeah. My brother and I have been fishing there since we were 10 years old.

The thing I like about the Clinch is that unlike smaller streams any cast up there can result in a BIG fish. (though I'm not against smaller streams too) The thing I don't like about the Clinch is being subject to the water release schedules.

And just so we're technically still on topic.

I really hate when we have a chance for tornadoes at night. Makes it hard to sleep and I usually don’t. I’ve had to go to the basement before by myself in daylight but now getting kids down there in the dark will be a whole other matter.

Sounds like you have one of those "Home Alone" type basements.

Our house is old so you have to go outside to go downstairs and it’s a cellar basement. Not ideal in the dark. We had a downburst/EF0 hit maybe 500 yards from my house 10 or so years ago. Trees were about bent in half and I had to go grab the dog running around the yard. I found insulation and shingles in my yard from that.

Wow. I can’t even imagine that kind of terror. Glad he and the family are healthy.
I could hear the shock in his voice when I called to check on him. He couldn’t get the door to his son’s room open due to the pressure and had to go outside and break the window... once he did that the door opened on its own. Tornadoes do some strange things

Never caught a real freshwater trout. The seatrout we have down here are actually part of the drum family. Of course by my understanding many freshwater trout aren't even technically trout and closer to salmon.

Trout are in the salmon family but they’re their own species. The term “trout” for sea trout has more to do with their similar appearance and not their classification.

Makes sense. I've only fished Florida, GA, SC, and the Keys. One day I'll make a trip and see how you landlocked folk do it.
