Physically....yes. He was asleep and woke up when his security system went off. He jumped up thinking someone was trying to get in and then all of his bedroom windows were blown out and his bedroom door was blown off. He had glass in his arms and then stepped all in it running to check on his baby.
He was shaken up, but doing ok by the time I left this evening.
I’m not sure at this point if his house can be repaired.

If any of you guys are familiar with exit 232 on I-40 (hwy 109)..... the buildings on Eastgate Blvd down by the auto auction got hammered. I tried to get to my nephew last night, but the roads were impassable.... on my way back home I started smelling gasoline.... I thought... and then I noticed a red glow in the sky through the rain and mist....the road I was on runs parallel to Eastgate and I-40 on the north side of the interstate.... as I got closer I could see that a very large building on Eastgate was fully engulfed .... HUGE FIRE.... I don’t know if the building exploded or if the tornado took it down or both, but I could clearly see the framework of the building was mangled. It looked like a freaking volcano.

Did you get much warning - anything to wake you up? We had a tornado within five miles a few years ago - they said later it bounced between and EF4 and EF5 as it went down a valley - the ridge on this side apparently gave us a lot of protection. We had no idea until the next day what happened because an earlier round of storms knocked out our power. Now my phone beeps and tells me that rain is expected to begin about at 9:23 or something similar.

I was awake, but not paying any attention to the tv until one of the guys on the local CBS affiliate who was outside saw the tornado coming toward the station and started freaking out.... I perked up at that point. They were projecting it to come very close if not right over me so I woke everyone up and went under my front porch

Wow. I can’t even imagine that kind of terror. Glad he and the family are healthy.

I'm a night owl anyway, but when bad weather is headed our way I tend to stay up and see what's going on. More curiosity than concern. Glad I've never had to make that call. I'd go for our downstairs hall closet under the stairs, but I've always wondered if a car in the garage might do better.

I am the same way. One of my favorite things is to open up my garage and smoke a stogie as a big storm rolls through. My lady hates it because it stinks the garage up. I am never sure where to go. I don’t have a basement. So inner closet I suppose is where me and the ladies would seek refuge.

I'm kinda weird that way too - always loved good storms - something about the power and fury. But like you from inside an open garage or on a porch with the wind - not out in it. I think I was on the porch reading around the time the tornado near us was making it's run down the valley - power was out, so there wasn't a lot to do at the time.

I really hate when we have a chance for tornadoes at night. Makes it hard to sleep and I usually don’t. I’ve had to go to the basement before by myself in daylight but now getting kids down there in the dark will be a whole other matter.
