Horrible news from Nashville! Prayers for all involved.

Is downtown ok? My mother is suppose to fly there Saturday for a conference. She said no news of cancelling yet, but hasn’t heard how downtown is?

Downtown is totally fine. The bad parts are Germantown and East Nashville. so for your mom's conference, she should be just fine.

Still taking a break but wanted to come here and share that some of our extended family by marriage had loved ones who perished last night in the storm. Please remember in your thoughts and prayers all who suffered loss yesterday. Now back to your regular programming.

Sorry to hear that @JacketVol . Prayers for all those that lost friends and loved ones.

Hey, I cut off the service I was using to monitor my alarm and need to find a replacement monitoring service. And, I simply refuse to believe that it is something that should cost more than $15/month. Any recommendations?

I've spent the whole morning calling and texting relatives and friends, even ones I haven't talked to in years, to make sure they're alright. Everyone I've spoken to thus far is safe, though some have some pretty bad damage. That's what I'm doing because it is literally all I can do right now.

I think that's the manifestation of genuine thoughts and prayers. Maybe I can do something later, and I've asked each if there's a way to help, but right now it's everything. For those who think that means nothing, the people I've talked to say it means the world that I care. It helps them.

When people are hurting, those "thoughts and prayers," when properly administered, are a demonstration of love. It helps people to know they're cared for.

That's the last thing I'll say about it.

I live on the west side of the city and just experienced strong storms. Downtown and east of the city got hit hard. So far, I’ve heard from almost all of my friends and everyone is okay, thankfully. Still waiting on word from my uncle that lives in Lebanon and lives right in the path of where the tornado hit though. Praying he’s alright.
My brother and sis in laws fancy apartments got hammered..they live close to downtown. Their apartment itself did not get damaged, but the buildings received considerable damage, and they left to stay at friends till the power and water are restored..thank God they are ok.

I grew up in Mt. Juliet (I live in Rutherford County currently). Three deaths have been reported so far. Lots of damage. My old junior high was hit really hard. I know Donelson Christian Academy in Davidson County was also hit really hard.

Putnam County (Cookeville) took the highest human toll so far with 16 deaths reported.

So far, all my family and friends that I've heard from have been OK. I know the parents of a friend of mine from high school lost their home.

There isn't a lot folks from far away can do, but consider donating your time to local organizations. There's always work to be done.

I know we have folks on here from Mt. Juliet, Nashville, and possibly Cookeville. Hopefully, they'll give us a note they are OK when they can. There are still a lot of power outages.

I doubt we get an accurate picture of what’s happening in India.
I bet the picture coming out of India is more accurate than the picture coming out of China.

India is much less repressive. Greater freedom of the press, and access to the outside world.

Yeah, I just wonder if we’re getting an accurate picture from either place. India because lack of technology/large cities/reporting. China because of, as you said, repression.

I’d imagine a ton of people have the virus and don’t know it.
