Coronavirus (No politics)

I'm hoping someone, DeerPark maybe can tell what early steps the UT is taking to hopefully neutralize the potential impact the coronavirus to our football team. And indeed, our athletes in general. I don't think COVID-19 is a joke given rapid transportation these days which didn't exist during the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic. Plus the gigantic global population of today and numbers of travelers going far and wide. What measures is the UT taking to provide as much protection to our teams as is possible? To my knowledge, no vaccine for COVID-19 currently exists. For my wife and myself, being rural, we at this time avoid venturing into large cities, ingest foods with reputations for boosting the immune system and being flu fighters. I'm certain UT medical staff and dieticians know more than any of us but wonder if and what steps they're taking now instead of waiting until we have actual cases among our athletes.

Every time something like this comes along people want to compare it to the Spanish flu in the 1910's. I think people don't stop and think though, medicine and medical care in 1918 is nothing to medicine in 2020. With modern care it's doubtful the Spanish flu would have been anywhere near as bad as it was. Look at all the old diseases typhoid, tb, leprosy, scarlett fever, and the like that used to be incurable or almost a death sentence a little over 100 years ago. Now other than people with weak immune systems or resistant forms of the disease in most cases they are fully treatable. Even with viruses with no immediate cure our supportive care is generally good enough to prevent death till it runs its course. There are exceptions though like with Ebola, but even then there are more survivors now than in the past. So I'm not worried about coronavirus YET, but I'm cautiously interested in it for now.

And Jack Daniels has a cure for all of them!
A real cure-all for a cold - 1 pint of irish rock and rye whiskey, 3 lemons, small bottle of honey, 1 plastic hefty leaf bag, 1 electric blanket.

Drink at least half of the pint with lemon and honey added to your liking, drinking the whole pint in 30 min. is best. Cut the leaf bag down the side and across the bottom and lay half of it under you and pull other half over you. Put electric blanket over top of you and turn on high. You'll be sweating like hell in about 30 minutes and go for as long as you can stand it. The longer the better but try to maintain the sweating for 2 hours. Get up and shower and hydrate yourself well.

I did it at a slower rate because I knew I was going to sleep so I didn't turn the electric blanket on high......more like medium, but I guarantee you'll sweat any virus out of you without having to buy any over-the-counter meds, go to a clinic, or do anything other than what I've posted. Go Vols !

Drink 10 shots of whiskey in 30 mins? Sounds a little aggressive..

Why do these plagues always seem to develop in China? And how the hell can they trace it back so quickly to dead animal sold in an open market. Very peculiar

Not sure your science is good here. I think it’s around 160 degrees to kill a virus, but you’d be long dead by then. Over heating your body can cause other problems and potentially cause organ failure.
