Gun control debate (merged)

There are other inalienable rights too, which the "right" to unfettered firearms significantly infringe upon. Why do gun fanatics ignore every other constitutional right? I guess the right to free speech isn't as much fun as firing an uzi or AK-47.
You never did answer my question. I asked you if you believe only police and military should have access to guns. You responded that you’d be fine with it. I then asked if you trusted government. Well... do you?

If you are asking whether I trust someone I know is trained with a firearm versus Johnny Redneck who may or may not be, then I'll take the known quantity every time. Please note that I'm not saying every gun owner is reckless or irresponsible, but enough are that there were more mass shootings than days in the year in 2019. Let that sink in for a minute. That should concern everyone. I know as a parent it really concerns me.

Depends upon the definition of mass shootings.

No. Do you trust the government to be the only ones with guns?

It concerns me that that many crazy people are falling through the cracks. No doubt, guns make it easier to kill more people, but the real problem is the disturbed people who commit the crime.

Agreed, but if guns were less readily available, then maybe some of these people wouldn't be able to carry out these heinous crimes.

Those were crimes and had nothing to do with law abiding gun owners
Every one of these people was a "law abiding" gun owner until they committed these crimes. That's the beauty of the Right's argument as we can never take someone's gun away until after something awful has happened.

Lmao. You really believe that the criminals in questions wouldn’t get the guns they are using? They are mostly gang/drug related shootings and they didn’t go to a gun show or buy them from Gun stores. Passing extra unneeded laws will not keep the 330 million firearms from existing in the US (only .000001% of those are used in crimes)

A lot, if not most, of the people responsible for these mass shootings did not have a criminal record beforehand.

Or they could resort to other methods, like explosives. Not like they're hard to make. Blaming guns is just the simple way of ignoring the larger problem, which is the people who commit the crime and what motivates them to do so.

No they weren’t. In the great majority of “mass shooting” cases, the person was previously a criminal or mentally ill but still didn’t follow the laws in place. No law will change that other than actually locking felons and crazies up for good

Why would we take away someone’s rights on something that they may do in the future?

Not saying take it way, just impose sensible restrictions. I'm sure the parents of the kids at Sandy Hook would be okay with you having to waiting another 7 days to get your 100th gun.

I had nothing to do with a Sandy Hook so I couldnt care less what they think. Also a 7 day wait period wouldn’t have made a difference to that incident

A gun is a tool. In the wrong hands, it's deadly. But so is a hammer, or a multitude of other tools. It's too easy to blame guns, especially when they're not the root of the cause. Should we outlaw alcohol because people drive drunk and get in deadly accidents?

Perhaps if we eliminated the gun free zone (where the great majority of these things happen) that would make a difference?

You don't care what parents of people whose 7 year old children died due to gun violence think? How thoughtful of you.
I don’t care what they think of me owning a gun because it doesn’t matter. I am not a criminal, I’m not going to shoot kids. Why would you advocate for something (7day waiting period) that wouldn’t have affected Sandy hook at all? Kind of proves the point that it’s about “feelz” and not any actual logic

I believe their thinking is skewed by the tragedy that has befallen them. It's natural for that to happen. It doesn't mean they're right.
