Dude, we have the most advanced infection-control agency in the world (CDC) working full-time on figuring this virus out: what it is, how it spreads, how to prevent, how to treat, and what to do if things go south in the U.S. They operate independently of the President. It would be terribly reckless for any of our leaders to incite panic when there isn't any need for that at all, right now. Trump's most important duties in this matter are to keep people calm and make sure all appropriate agencies are doing their jobs.

I don't want him to cause panic. I just don't want him to minimize it by making it seem like the regular flu is worse, or that it's unlikely we will have new cases, simply because he's worried that it makes him look bad.

Everyone knows this is not his fault and is out of his control. What he should say is that he is appointing someone truly qualified (not freaking lackey Pence) to stay on top of it and deploy resources quickly as needed. No one in their right mind would think Pence has some sort of skill here.

--There's a a new virus spreading through out the world
--It's new and we're still learning about how to control it
--Most people who are infected only have mild symptoms and recover nicely
--The US government is working hard to prepare American healthcare for infected patients and develop a vaccine

I don't really think Pence is going to be handling the day to day stuff. He will just be the face explaining things in press conferences.

It’s just another virus that can be deadly for some.

Probably wouldn’t even be that big of a deal had it not broken out during Chinese New Year.

Has anyone in the US even died from it yet?

People would still criticize him.... it really doesn’t matter bc they are just words.... what matters is what we are doing to fight the disease.

So that new case in CA with no travel history/connections to previous cases was admitted to a hospital last Wednesday but wasn't tested until Sunday because they did not meet the CDC's criteria for testing.
