Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

That I am.

If the phrase "I'm from the government and here to help" worries you, "I'm from the government and I'm placing you under quarantine" should scare the **** out of you.
And the phrase "I'm from the government, the virus is becoming wide spread, and we aren't going to do a damn thing about it" should terrify the sh!t of you.

Lol. In reality, how much do you think they can do?

Is there a place more government centric that China? How is that working out?

Since the first case of Coronavirus was report in the US on January 30th and up until now there have been no deaths in the US from this virus. That supports a fatality rate of 2% and likely less.

Trump's thought of trying to keep out initial cases of coronavirus was actually a bad idea. It's better to let limited American patients with the virus back into the US for American doctors to have first hand experience in studying, and treating the patients. Otherwise you have no first hand experience with it and only published data to go off of and then suddenly you have an outbreak with no prepared medical professionals.
Well there's 54 in the US right now.

A US soldier in Korea has become infected.

American soldier, 23, based in South Korea is diagnosed with coronavirus - making him the first U.S. service member to test positive

The U.S. military says one of its soldiers based in South Korea tested positive for coronavirus, the first U.S. service member infected.

A U.S. military statement said Wednesday that the 23-year-old man is in self quarantine at his off-base residence.

It says the soldier was originally based in Camp Caroll in a town near the southeastern city of Daegu, where most of South Korea's virus cases are clustered.

South Korea said Wednesday it had almost 1,150 cases of the new coronavirus, the biggest outbreak outside mainland China.

About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea as deterrence against potential aggression from North Korea.

South Korea has reported 169 more cases of a new virus, mostly in the southeast city of Daegu and nearby areas, bringing its total number of infections to 1,146.

I'm watching Bloomberg: Asia Markets. Hong Kong speech on their budget and people have masks on at business meeting.

I see US futures up a tad. Seems like people expect hurried US rate cut. Possible.

Futures bumped a tad on Monday as well, then the sell off began and hasn't stopped.

Haven't heard anything from N Korea lately - they're more so than even China. That could mean they are covering up or maybe even reached their expiration date and nobody knows.

Is Daegu the Taegu of the Korean War era? One of those Asian places where the name morphs with time? The first place I lived outside Tennessee was Kimpo, Korea ... now its a goofy sounding Gimpo. It was Peking when I was in school before finally morphing into Beijing. And all the neat sounding places we used to know like Bombay, Burma, Siam ... who ever heard of Myanmar Shave or Mumbai Sapphire?
