Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Doubtful. Honestly that seems like such a low bar attempt at containment. It seems almost hilariously dumb.
I agree. Should be a full month.

If it explodes here like other places you can't send kids to school or people to work and then home to their families.

It depends on where you work. I work at UTMC & it would be mandatory for me to show up. You are correct though; schools would be closed indefinitely.

Schools I get. That said, businesses cant just stop. You'd end up with dead people and an economic catastrophe, instead of just dead people.

If you don't then there's no use stopping anything with it.
At some point you have to stop all H2H contact that's longer than the incubation of it. If you allow it to spread the healthcare system will become China with hospitals flooded.

This is ludacris. You act like there is some magic number of days we can all go hide, then come back out, and the boogeyman is gone. It isnt feasible.

If kids stay home, a working parent will stay home. People would not want to go to work out of fear, eat out, shop or enjoy entertainment. Parts and product to do your job will become short of supply. It would be a cascading economic crisis even if not a mandatory shutdown. IMO.

Agree on all. There would be a constant tug of war of people trying to get back to work though, to avoid personal financial collapse. If there isnt, then we've reached a new world that 99% arent capable of dealing with.

The thing is if a business typically loses 20% (best guess) of their production, they go under or have to cut personnel. Now imagine 10% of the people have no job or refuse to work, lose their home, stock market tanks, etc. Who knows what kind of cascading impact this would have regardless.

I am just glad I would not have to make the decision on course of action.

There is no stopping this virus. It's going to work it's way around the world until it gets defeated by peoples own immune systems. Even though I'm older, I bet my immune system is stronger than most peoples are. I didn't wash my hands every ten minutes, I drank out of a green water hose and a public fountain, my drinking water comes out of the tap. People can go on and on about what is better for themselves, but going outside and camping and playing and hiking exposes people to things the video game generation never sees.

How do you think it will impact large gatherings, if/when it gets here? Amusement parks, tourist attractions, cruises, air travel, movie theaters, sporting events, etc?

Can you imagine the National Conventions? This could adversely effect a lot of things we take for granted.

How bad would it be if they weren't? Like @Orangeburst said, IMO a mandatory quarantine is coming unless something strange like warmer weather does indeed kill it which we really have no evidence of.

It will be impossible to have a mandatory quarantine of any decent sized community in the United States.

There won't be. Once it shows up it'll be just like the flu, some people get it and some don't. China tried to contain it, but it's out now and God knows where it will stop.
