Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I liked their little practice drill.

Yeah, I'm confused by this. The original plan was to move these infected people to predestined military bases that are already equipped for it. They suddenly decide to send random groups to Alabama without notifying the local government. Nothing about this makes any sense.

I heard Anniston. The Anniston Army Depot is sited there on something like 15,000+ acres. They did and I assume still handle munitions ... including chemical. I would imagine it to be a pretty good location to quarantine patients. It's almost certain to have medical facilities with CBR trained staff. There's likely stuff there as bad or worse than coronavirus.

Its too late for stopping the flights to matter. China royally screwed everyone.

I feel so damned secure knowing China is making our meds. Of course, some of mine are unavailable because they diddled with the process and developed carcinogenic blood pressure and stomach meds. And now I keep getting notices from ExpressScripts about the rest being "temporarily unavailable". I feel sorry for people who are on life saving/maintaining drugs. We can do a lot better than this in maintaining our strategic needs and security.

Kinda late. Should have been well ahead of that game. We had much higher security needs to address than those the Space Command assumed.

For those commenting yesterday on my Italy trip in May, I faxed the Pope today.

He evidently comes out on Wednesdays and does some Pope things. Girflriend and her family are Catholic so they want to go. You have to have tickets but they only accept faxes. No email or regular mail. Just faxes.

Hey Swiss Guard, 1992 called. They want their technology back.

Did you ask him where they hide the kids?

So the Singapore cases have went up and it's 90° during the day and 80° at night.

That doesn't sound like heat hurts this stuff.

Not necessarily true. You can get the flu in the summer.

Here, you're starting at zero, so of course the numbers would go up. Rate would be the more important number

I always thought the thing with diseases like the flu and other communicable diseases wasn't the effect of temperature on the disease itself but the effect of temperature on humans. When it's cold, we spend far more time in closed areas - often crowded and closed areas where person to person transmission is enhanced ... the isolated cruise ship was a great example of a person to person incubator. I seem to vaguely remember that Union troops in confined hospitals died at a higher rate due to disease transmission than Confederate troops in more open conditions.

Just another reason to not do cruise ships

That's part of the equation. However, flu has been shown to be more transmissable in colder, drier environments. It may have to do with hardening of the outer layer of the virus in those conditions.

As I said a while back, not sure if this will translate to Corona.

Thank you for that update. You always add the good medical facts that a lot of us don't know. I have to admit that pretty much every time I read a real medical report my eyes glaze over and I go to sleep - I honestly don't know how you guys do it.

After two or three, the novelty wears off. Besides a lot of what used to be free isn't now, and the quality of service and meals is definitely dwindling. That's even without getting into the shore excursions and the absurd cost.

I was going to Italy in April, but I'm not getting on a plane for awhile. Putting the trip off for a later date.

Very nice. Sorrento has always attracted my imagination. I saw one particular picture of a sunset. The way the hills interrupted the sun made it look like fingers reaching down ... made quite an impression
Check out that website, and all the destinations and cars. I know the man who owns the company, and I get a free trip, other than airfare. I'm doing an Alfa tour , and the owner is giving it.

I think he is referring to this:

"We cannot let the terrorists achieve the objective of frightening our Nation to the point where where we dont conduct business, where people dont shop. Thats their intention. Their intention was not only to kill and maim and destroy. Their intention was to frighten to the point where our Nation would not act."

CNN.com - Bush urges Americans to travel, Congress to work - December 4, 2001

My point being if everyone stops traveling it'll tank the economy.
