I don't really think any mask is going to work seeing all the healthcare workers in hazmat suits. Though the mask is utterly useless if you have a beard.

We purchased the masks that are supposed to be effective against the airborne particles for our people in China.

We were told that that the regular masks are not effective at preventing one from breathing in the airborne virus but it is somewhat effective in that it generally limits how much a person touches their face, which is an action that spreads the virus. TIFWIW.

Honestly I'd might reconsider that. Italy has started placing cities under quarantine and preventing people from leaving or entering. No telling what direction the outbreak will take in Italy and even the rest of the world by than.

I think I'm going to have to do some follow up on my brother and SIL - haven't heard anything from them in about 3 weeks. I think they were due back home from Egypt, Israel, and surroundings yesterday or the day before. Doesn't seem like a good time to be travelling anywhere, and bad for people who have scheduled trips months in advance. Hope your trip works out - but staying safe is more important.

So just a dumb question. Suppose we find the cure for all these new infections, where do we manufacture the drugs, medical supplies, and protective gear? Sometimes I gather we keep putting the cart way before the horse - it's nice having the answer, but a problem if you can't supply the fix. I keep returning to WW2 because we were nationally self sufficient in creating what we and allies needed, and we had the intellect (many times good ole farm boys) to tinker and cannibalize and keep equipment in the field working. We are simply letting all that availability slip away.

Being stuck there is a major worry.

Its 3 months away. In that time Italy should either contain it or it will be such a problem that we cant go.

Anyone thinking this can be contained is foolish.

It will only be contained if it behaves in a flu like manner and disappears with warm weather or if for some other reason it peters out.

But quarantines, transportation bans, etc. Will not stop it. World is too interconnected now.
