When I first started following this weeks ago I thought the same things about comparing this to the flu but now I’m in the camp that it’s something more malicious. I think there is so much window dressing happening because it’s in China and it’s the 2nd largest economy. I do some business with a couple of companies in Shanghai and I have two open orders currently waiting for shipment. The orders been ready to ship for 3-4 weeks (I know the Lunar holiday happened) but I have not heard a peep from any of them. They’re usually blowing me up to line up their shipments but its been eerily quiet on their end. I know China extended the holiday in some places but it’s highly unusual to me that there is no communication.

Yes, at this moment. But I wouldn’t downplay the Coronavirus either. Our government is clearly concerned about it since they are now planning on setting up quarantine areas at several Air Force bases stateside. We still don’t know enough about this thing to say much one way or the other.

We know enough about the flu and yet people still don’t protect themselves from it or respect it. What makes you think this will change for Corona?

It is understandable for people to be anxious about something new and unknown and that has cause a nation to quarantine millions.

The flu this year has taken out more health patients than ever before. It’s just not the elderly and compromised. In the US it should be your priority virus of concern. Trust me, I’ve seen it, work with it, and experienced it first hand this season.

I understand your facts but am saying people are going to have more anxiety over something they dont know and have never seen. Especially when you see a nation behaving as China right now.

As a citizen of the US and in healthcare, I’m more concerned with influenza RIGHT NOW than corona. While I have my eye on it, I’m not going to sweat it until it becomes an imminent threat. Treat what’s in front of me, be aware of what’s on the horizon.

The vast majority of deaths from coronavirus have been elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions just like flu. They have also been at the epicenter of the outbreak where health care facilities and resources are limited.

Read yesterday new cases are leveling off.

The percent of death to infection is what I'd like to know. The honest numbers.
