Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

A week ago I’d never heard of a pangolin. Looks like a cross between an armadillo and an anteater. What the evidence that it’s in the transmission chain of the corona virus between bats and humans. Other than the fact it’s on the dinner menu in Wuhan?
They are great. The internet loved them as a meme for a while because they look like they are bashfully wanting to ask you something.

So, what do we think we may know about this virus beyond it’s a nasty mofo...

Human to human transmission
Aerosol transmission
You could be asymptomatic contagious anywhere from 2 days to over a month
It might be able to survive on objects for up to 9 days without a human host
You might catch it within 15-50 seconds of being around a contagious person
It might travel through the plumbing
It might travel through central heat and air units

And all that ^^^ is just from reports coming out of China.

Anybody want to take a stab at trying to convince me that this was stirred up by Mother Nature in her let’s fock with the humans cauldron and that it’s not man made?

Not a chance? If it's man made how do we know? Why are they spraying empty cities?

If you burn wood with poison ivy on it it's very easy to get on your body and in your eyes.

Man made or natural a virus is still organic material. They didn't encapsulate the virus in a titanium heat proof shell and duplicate it on some mass scale. These aren't superpowered nanobots, man.

I'm wondering why the CDC hasn't had any more teleconferences since Feb. 6?

I'm going to stay with my idea that it can infect someone. There's a reason they're fogging entire cities.

And there you go I was waiting on this and now it’s on like Donkey Kong here in the states. I wonder how many people he spread it too that are now themselves spreading it. If we start seeing a similar situation in San Diego like in Wuhan and we can’t contain this thing over here then it’s time to start panicking folks. Football won’t be so important anymore

There is no reason to panic at all at this time

I don’t think anyone is panicked, but everyone should damn sure be aware and vigilant.

How do you contain something like this virus if the asymptomatic contagious period can be upwards of a month? Especially with confirmed cases having not shown signs of a fever during all or at least a large part of that contagious timeframe.

Anybody want to guess numbers on how many possible cases are walking around the planet that passed those temperature screenings and are still asymptomatic or have very light symptoms but aren’t really feeling sick yet..

Has our CDC started testing all pneumonia cases based on current contagious information or are they still limiting it to being in China or contact with someone who has been in China?

This bug keeps getting nastier and nastier as more info comes out. I hope the newest info about contagious period isn't correct.

The link/twitter whatever that started this was chinese officials, I guess alleged chinese officials, grabbing people walking on the streets and sticking them in the back of a metal box on a truck. That is literally some nazi crap right there. Grabbing people off of streets.

Earlier in this thread they boarded up some apartment homes. And I know some of the videos of them spraying streets shows boarded up buildings as well.

I have yet to see you raise an eyebrow at what china has done. At all. This is why I keep harping my stance of standing up for individual rights over societal rights. You are willing to at least turn a blind eye, if not encourage, to this stuff going on because it might be for the greater good. And in my world of real world history that is exactly how every great government strategy has begun.

You can not lose the value of the individual. If you are willing and able to actually care for individuals, society takes care of itself. Instead you want to use the lowest denominator you can to sweep the greater good across the world with no care to how it will effect people. As long as 51% are ok who cares what happens to the 49%. Because that's the greater good.
I saw what started this, you tagged me saying that you were curious how I felt.
You have yet to see me condone or condemn China's responses. I'm confident they have done things that I would agree with and done other things with which I would disagree.
My point is simply this, if you support the quarantining of the passengers on the plane or the cruise ship off of the coast (which pretty much everyone does), then you acknowledge that there is a line where the safety of the many is outweighed by the rights of the individual.
Once we acknowledge that there is a line (which there must be), then the conversation can move to where to place the line. This virus is the perfect example.
I don't believe that innocent people should be grabbed off of the street and thrown into metal containers.
I don't believe a person known to be contagious should be allowed to walk freely on the streets.
The line lies somewhere between those two extremes.

Individuals have the obligation to at times, join as a group to protect other or even all individuals.

Absolutely vigilant. What's the worse thing you have, a bunch of nonperishable food to eat 3 months down the road.

If you wait until all hell breaks loose (if it does) it will be way to late and empty shelves.

I look at the advantage of not having to grocery shop as much in the next few months if those supplies are not needed for immediate survival.

Would this mean if you have no symptoms the virus inside you dies over time, or could it be like HIV?

Looks like more number skewing by the CCP in an attempt to save face, like they still have any at this point.

It’s already been reported that there’s an asymptomatic contagious period, so if you have it and have no symptoms it would seem that you’d be considered a carrier.
