Ask Behr anything about anything not related to food

I used butter - olive oil and some kind of blackened seasoning that Behr once recommended - its ok for a dinner, but I end up drowning the after taste with a few Coke Zeros

Cedar plank salmon when eating out. At home equal parts soy and brown sugar and a little cayenne. Smoked some salmon a few weeks ago that's alot different ballgame. Still playing around with that

Right, and that’s good, but it might not mask that strong oily fish flavor for those who don’t like it.

If you’re ever willing to give it another whack, google for recipes that have some serious brown sugar etc going. I’d be happy to share ours, but Hubs is in charge of the salmon. He knows my limits, lol.

Whatever he uses, it sort of resembles a Memphis or KC BBQ sauce. What I call “candied meat”, or in this case, slightly candied fish.

See, there you are, instinctively craving some sweetness to counteract that blast of salmon.

Oooohhh, right. :(

I’m not familiar enough with sugar substitutes to have any ideas. Do you like tuna? And ask your doc about the fish caps. There’s a recent study poo-poo’ing their benefits, so who the hell knows. They’re reasonably cheap*, and I’m trying to be kind to the linings of my blood vessels.

* “Americans have the most expensive urine in the world.” (a reference to our use of nutritional supplements. But then, we do tend to eat crap.)

Yeah, I skimmed through it. I'll probably go back later and read more closely
ask them when the last time UF was # 1 in recruiting -- a comment was UF fans arent happy unless they are #1 in recruiting -- gee it has been quite awhile I think -- guess there are alot of miserable UF fans out there :)

salmon on a plank on a charcoal grill with wood chips is top notch. Oven cooked fish is bland

I wished I like stuff like that, can’t fault anyone that does (except mikey, still can’t wrap my head around the veggie thing), hell, if it wasn’t for beef, I’d make a fine vegetarian.
i like beef too, dont get me wrong, i just like a variety of foods. Plus science tells us eating too much red meat is not good for your heart

my dad took those for years -- Im not so sure they helped him though -- of all the health woes he had, it was a heart attack that claimed him -- though I still think it was an aneurysm -- declined an autopsy so Ill never know for sure

It can definitely be an acquired taste.

Do you remember how you flavored it (rub, marinade, etc.)? A good flavoring can really dial back the strong fishy taste. Straight-ahead salmon, even with lemon, is just too much for me.

As for aftertaste, I take a fish oil/omega-3 capsule except on salmon day. The first burp usually happens about 45 minutes later. Our cat is deeply intrigued and gives several serious, deep sniffs. (The burps end a half hour or so later.)

If you truly can’t get your arms around salmon, and if you have any risk factors for heart disease like hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia (high blood fats), obesity, etc., look for a good fish oil/omega-3 supplement in the vitamin aisle. I have a couple of supplement bottles in my drawer heading for expiration dates that I wasted money on and never take, but I’m pretty faithful with the multi-vitamin and the fish oil.

Look for one that is high in EPA and DHA like this one (unfortunately an Earth Fare brand, so going down the drain, I guess.) There are plenty of crap supplements that have a lower amount of these two.

If nothing else, your pets will be intrigued, lol.
