Neyland Renovation Update?

I know it's a point of pride with many of our fans, but I think it's time to get over this mind set that Neyland must have a seating capacity of over 95,000 and understand that these changes will be enhancing the overall fan experience while also making for a more aesthetically pleasing venue with modern amenities. It's the 21st century. Tennessee's football program needs to join it.

Yep. I honestly want them to reduce capacity and make better, more spacious seating. Being over 100k doesn’t matter to me.

I’d say about 30% of people at the game would rather be in the shop, getting food/drink, and socializing/taking pics.
No doubt about it. Some of them drive me nuts too lol. The thing is, it’s not 1985 anymore where you’re lucky to get in TV 4 or 5 times a year and raw capacity is a selling point. Now the live fan experience has to compete with the convenience of every game being on HDTV and big screens becoming common.

We already know, via Fulmer, that 102,455 isn't correct, hasn't been for a while. How many on that list are truly accurate I wonder?

I'd say very few. Although the 102,455 isn't that far off. One year I went on UT's site and looked at buying tickets in each section and you can count the seats. I had sheets of paper with each section/row/and # of seats. I KNOW! NERD ALERT! The only exceptions were the Terrace and the boxes. IIRC, the 2 bowls hold around 98,000 using some guess-timation on the Terrace. Then, one game I was sitting in the stadium and looked at how many boxes are there and how many each sat and I'd say you could get close to 102,455.

I have mentioned this here before but there is some very expensive civil engineering that no one will ever see that is overdue. The massive stadium we now see is sitting on the old original stadium from the 20s and 30s. The concrete from that era is crumbling and braces need to be reinforced. A big part for the new facade pictured below, which is a bulk of the $180 million set aside, is structural. Sure, it will look good too but don't fool yourself, this upgrade is well overdue.

Dead on accurate. It’s an erector set sitting on top of a 90 year old shell.

I do think we should keep it over 100k. Yes, it's based on pride but that's one thing we can take pride in regardless of the on-field product. Start competing for championships again and the stadium will fill up.

We all dream of a day when the pee trough is upgraded to real urinals. I'm sure we'll all also really miss the always pee soaked, wet concrete smell....
But there is never a wait to pee in the south end zone.... either because the troughs are more efficient or men are a little embarrassed to use them.
It's a rite of passage...just stare straight ahead

People enjoy messing around.
I don't think the people that come to Tennessee games are like that. 99 percent of them are there because they love Tennessee and want to support the boys. Not so they can mill around and drink a $12 bud light

I agree. And in all fairness that is just the SEC in general. I was mobilized to Madigan last spring and decided to check out the Oregon and Washington Spring game while I was there. I could not believe how few people attended and how there was no discussion about the play on the field. I always go to the Orange/White game for comparison and almost all of the discussion around me is about the new guys on the field, how certain positions look, etc. It just means more.
