Flu B sucks.

We got 8 inches of snow this weekend. Business as usual. I like that.

My eight year old daughter is going to be the death of me. Between her mouth and her smile I'm either wrapped around her little finger or ready to chop it off to get her to stop sassing me and her mom.

Send bourbon.

Mine is 8 too. Everyday she goes from being my favorite person on earth to someone I would drive over with my car.

I am dreading it. If you are an ******* at 8 I can only imagine 17. The kids smart. She’s funny as all get out. But she’s a stubborn ****er. Gets it from her mom.

When you say, "you don't need to be going out tonight with (fill in blank)"

Agree. Flu is making it's rounds here.

My nine year old does it as well.

Only irish whiskey left after holidays.

I saw where someone posted a limerick in this forum a few weeks ago.

Here's a question or two or three.

Is there a limerick thread here?

Is posting limericks about other posters allowed here?

Or would this get out of hand pretty quick?

Maybe I could say I was asking for a friend?

I don't know any that wouldn't have to be heavily redacted to be on this site.

I never thought I’d ever type these words but, I bought a Prius. It’s a 2013 Prius V (2), black. I bought it from the original owner who had it serviced every 5,000 miles at a dealership and she gave me all of the service records.

I went with a hybrid for pragmatic reasons. As much as I would have loved to buy a mid-life crisis mobile, I don’t like sitting low with everybody’s headlights in my face and the V sits higher than my Altima but not quite as high as my fiancée’s Kia Soul.

50 mpg average isn’t bad either.

I have no idea why I thought about this guy, but does anyone know what happened with a guy that used to post here I believe his name was something like OrangeEmpire maybe? Seems like he may have been a state trooper in one of the mid west states

Haven't seen t-town in a while either.

So better work incentive question. Take them out to an expensive dinner or cash. I know the easy answer is cash. But that doesn’t always prove motivational for millennials. They like events.

What we’re finding more and more is “the young people” want to leave work at work. And they see a company dinner as a work obligation that eats into their free time. Our association has a free monthly happy hour for younger members and if 10 show up from hundreds that’s a good month. It’s making me wonder how Rotary or Lions will exist in 25 years.

Cash. Unless you are taking them away from work for the dinner. Now if its dinner and an fun event for them you might be on to something.

Even when we go out now it's about a whole experience, it's not uncommon for people to bounce around to different restaurants for a meal.

Some ideas would be to have food trucks come by work during hours and let them have a two hour lunch. Not sure what industry you are in so this may not work. Make sure there are several trucks so people dont have to wait and they have choices. Set up a voucher system where you close out at the end with the trucks.

If there is some unique play/event space in the city you have to pay for to get in, that can be an accompaniment to dinner. In Atlanta there is a roof top carnival/fair set up on top of Ponce City Market. That's what we talk about, not the 150 dollar meal we had before. Just provide the tickets and a free drink to get people there and then let them do their thing.

Rent out a bar that has games, again here in Atlanta there are two bars, The Painted Pin, and the Painted Duck. Both had a good if limited food selection, drinks but then games. Bowling, bocce, basketball hoops, shuffle board, ring toss, Skittles (not the candy) etc. Find some place like that.

I would list our preferences as:
Free time/no work event
Activity
Cash
Dinner
Anything still in the office

We use a book titled, Get Motivated, by Tamara Lowe. It's out of print now but can be bought used. She outlines 6 different motivational DNAs to which people innately respond.
Producer, Connector.
Variable, Stabilizer.
External, Internal.

It's simple to test and score, too.

I’m far from being a millennial and I’ve always hated after hours work events. I used to work for these guys that had a senior management diner meeting 1 Saturday every month, when your putting in 60+ hours every week the last thing you want to do is spend your Saturday discussing work.

Good point here. Separate the clicks if you go out. Dont try to force anything, but people who usually dont work with others can get talking over a drink pretty good. Principals and higher ups just stay out of the way or in silos. You are not the boss in these out of work experiences.

I read another thread some time ago that someone said he had passed. Not sure but you’re right, lots of posters are MIA.

So, I've been dating an equestrian for the past couple of months, and she finally "asked" (obligated) me to attend one of her competitions this past weekend. So here I am, in a nice suit (her suggestion), and I have to say, while watching dressage riding competitions is exceedingly entertaining, the crowds at these things are the absolute worst.

It's literally just a gaggle of super wealthy people damn near creaming their pants over which/how many horses they own. It was nerve racking. It's as though the horses are valued more than the riders. It came to a head when I heard someone mock my girlfriend for owning her horse and riding without a sponsor despite placing top 3 in most of the events. I'm a little older and wiser, so instead of weaving a tapestry of obscenities at this woman, I took a breath, turned around, and calmly asked her whether or not it felt like a waste of money to see her 60000 dollars consistently lose to an unsponsored rider who paid less than a fifth of that for a horse she trained herself. She apologized for offending me, and I apologized for not saying something sooner. I was then asked if I was her sponsor. I think that was the worst part.
