My understanding is that every past impeachment proceeding held by the Senate has, indeed, called witnesses to testify during their respective trial.

EDIT: 3 witnesses provided depositions for the Clinton trial, but were not called to testify as live witnesses.

Wrong. It's up to the House AND Senate to hold a fair and complete trial.

Were they forbidden or were they told to go through the courts to get it? If they have the info that Trump did something why would they need to compel him or others to testify about it.

If I were the president and the subject of the craziness so many from the left I would certainly not allow myself to be thrown into some circus of fishing expeditions looking for gotcha moments

I'm convinced all politicians are dirty as hell. They all break the law, I trust none of them. I don't know if Trump did what he is being accused of or not, I think it possible, I also believe the Democrats are guilty of fudging this to large extent, the timing and the way they have handled had been shady to say the least.

I also believe Pelosi is batshit crazy.

And many of them want people to testify like Biden and others to turn the tables because they believe, rightly or not, that there was just as much illegal stuff done by them or that they completely set up Trump and respect the Repubs to turn the tables.

Let's not pretend the 58% means what you want it to mean.

Actually, the House is guilty for a false impeachment. "Abuse of power" is not a crime even if it were true. "Obstruction of Congress" is a fantasy because the President can use executive privilege. Perfectly legal. This was a political opinion impeachment, nothing more and
Trump will not be convicted.
