Eric and Brian had Callahan on their show this morning and they asked him about this. Callahan said that the job is definitely not Osovets to lose and that Graham and Hardesty are real options right now. Didn't really give any info on a true RB Coach Board.

Take any of those 3 in a heartbeat. Wish we could have lost Weinke instead of YAC though... (Tee moving to QBs)

Agree completely with all that.

I just ain't guaranteed to be here next year (none of us are). So I'd rather the team I am able to watch just play better.

Santiago drops 18 and we shoot as well from 3 as we did against LSU against most the SEC teams, we win.

James has drastically improved in his 16 games. Went from having an inconsistent ugly shot, to being able to sink 3s and score outside. I hope he gets more aggressive and starts driving to the rim, same for Santiago (I expect he's a bit further behind only having played 4 games now and not having the off season conditioning like the other guys).

I think Gaines needs to be used more, confused why he didn't play against Georgia. He's a great defender already, has plenty of length (twss) and will push/play aggressive going to the basket.

Georgia is a lazy team on defense, they seem to be willing to watch Edwards on offense and really don't force the issue with rebounding. Things we would have absolutely punished them for last year (and hopefully will next year).
that's fine....and i get it. i want them to be better now too.

and had Turner not gotten hurt, and Uros been elligible from the jump and vescovi gets it together...who knows where'd we'd be right now.

but that's not what happened.

anyway. if things remain the same for this season and we finish like we've started, i'm just not gonna get up in arms about it. i knew this year was gonna be a transition year. i knew this season had the possibilty of being one we could miss the post season, and even if we did make the post season, it would probably take an extraordinary set of circumstances to see a big run occur. i know we have a big time talent upgrade on the way, and i know that all the kids that return for next year will get better b/c of Barnes' history for development....

so to me, this season was a "wait and see" type year, with one eye on next season being where we get back to being a factor.

If we finish 10-6 I'll be beside myself elated man. 20-12 with all this season has become would be a fantastic coaching job.

yeah, i think Barnes is a very good coach regardless, but if he could do that... yeah, that'd be noteworthy, especially having seen what we are thus far this season.

Then you haven’t followed the roster construction of many of the past championship teams. Cal’s championship team at UK, and even K’s championship teams had “veteran” contributors. Virginia, UNC, and Nova all developed high level talent that weren’t one and dones and stayed at least 2-3 years. Stick to the NFL.

What about the countless other teams that had runner ups or final four appearances. Once again try and talk yourself into this not being a bad coaching job lol

If we get Graham or Hardesty and lose Weinke I'd like to see Osovet get promoted.

Yeah, may end up losing him. His hire undoubtedly revolved around his offensive mind, which was good with a rookie OC and O having the chance to study the SEC but now...

Osovet for all intense and purposes seems like he needs to be on the field. Dude just has a great reputation and if it takes on on-field job to keep him then I hope Pruitt gets him a spot on the field.

Hey folks, sorry for being so tardy with my comments about last night's game. I was waiting on Plavsic to finish running from free-throw line to free-throw line.

Honestly though, what was weird was that there were times in the half-court offense where he seemed pretty nimble setting screen and releasing to the basket. But, man, when UGA got the ball and started back up court, he looked like he was running through quicksand with concrete shoes.

And, as someone else said, Basilio had it pegged (they said that he's really slow and doesn't have any kind of offensive arsenal). You may not like him, but I think he has some legit sources.
Can the NCAA make him ineligible again?

And had his usually good regular season.... with nothing in the post season to show for it. Lost in conference tournament and lost in elite 8.

But also because a team isn’t an upperclassman led means they shouldn’t be successful? Lol. Have a hard time buying that in basketball.
👆🏻 Gets it

He'll have 3 years in 5 of 500 or worse. Not saying next year will be a "hot seat" season, but if he can't win with Springer, Walker, Keon, James, Santi, Bailey, etc. then he will put himself in an interesting situation the year after, when a few of them could be leaving early for the NBA.

And I would agree that if he has a healthy roster from this season plus all the freshman come in healthy and we struggle THEN you start the conversation about what is going on and whether he is doing a good job at that point. But to talk about it now is just a lack of perspective. There were multiple things that were out of his control, along with a couple that were in his control, that have put this team in a position where we are competing at a fairly serious disadvantage vs our conference competition. To hold him at fault for the things that were out of his control (especially considering it was the great job he did that put GW and JB in a position to be good enough to leave early) and judge him based on his chicken salad with no real chicken is just faulty. Again, next season he should have a healthy amount of high quality chicken and if THEN the chicken salad still looks this bad you start discussing why and start to question if he is at fault.

Agree just about all of this. Say we only win 16 games and miss the tournament this season. Next year people are gonna fully expect a top 10 team, top 3 in the league, 1-3 seed in the tournament. Couple that with most are gonna expect at least a Sweet Sixteen. Springer and Keon are probably going to have to be elite for that to happen. If both are like JJJ I would be hard pressed to believe we meet those expectations.

Then it is a good thing that both of them are ELITE. I am happy we have JJJ. And he is going to have a great basketball career. He will look much better when surrounded by a better cast because he is more of a cog in a wheel as opposed to being THE GUY. But both Spring and Keon are on another level from JJJ. I think Walker probably more closely resembles JJJ.

With what this coach staff has had to work with from a personnel perspective, if we finish 20-12 and 10-6 then Barnes should be in discussion for coach of the year. That might be slight hyperbole but man that would be a terrific coaching job. Now, that doesn't mean it will be a pretty coaching job. Because it will include a lot of ugly wins. But finding a way to win if you are at a disadvantage is all that matters at that point. Not style points.
