You can't have it both ways. Barnes took a rag tag bunch of players nobody wanted and took them a game shy of the final four. He then lost four of his starting five. And counting Lamonte this year 5 of his top six. I understand the frustration. I'm frustrated too. But it's extremely difficult to have that attrition and bounce back. Some programs do it but they're names are KY, Duke, NC, and Kansas that are replacing 5* lottery picks with 5* lottery picks.

I do think Barnes lost some fan equity with flirting with UCLA. He handled the aftermath poorly as well. I think it was smart to pony up and keep him. How bad would it have been without JJ? Also, no way we would have the class coming in that we do.

My expectation is for this team to make significant improvement as the season progresses.

I agree.

This team plays like it is young, inexperienced, and scared. There are some things out of Barnes’ control. With that comes bad shot selection, TOs, just bad decision-making overall really.

My main issue with tonight’s game though was hustle. Just wasn’t there, especially on defense.

I'm not sure what we're trying to do on offense. I'm not sure the team does. Nothing is very decisive.

I said it last game and it was even more true tonight. SV isn’t a PG. He literally dribbles the ball for half the shot clock because he can’t get past his guy 35ft from the goal.

James has to play more PG than he is. At least he keeps the ball moving better which isn’t saying much I know

A game shy of the final four? He hasn’t gotten Tennessee past a Sweet 16 when he’s had two legitimate Final Four teams. There’s no denying that we lost a ton from last year’s team. My point is, Barnes has made his own bed when it comes to this team. His last two classes have been absolutely terrible, and that’s on him. He’s at a program that is capable of making it to the tournament pretty much every year. Bruce didn’t have a problem doing that.

Lamonte might not have been a pure point guard but he was better than what is left.

Both JJ and SV are still very inexperienced so they can improve. I think JJ needs to penetrate more. SV can get to the rim and he's shown flashes but has a long way to go.

Agree with all that but SV doesn’t have the God given athleticism to be a consistent penetrator. Just to slow of foot

Get out of here with that. UCLA isn’t a great job. It’s not that he was interested, it’s mainly what he did after the fact when he came right out and said he would have left Tennessee if UCLA would have covered the buyout. That didn’t sit well with a couple of people that you want to be sitting well with.

UCLA isn’t a great job?

Wow. You should probably stick to terrible football takes, you don’t know dick about basketball. Lol

You can tell Vol fans are primarily football fans. We never lose that mentality.

We’re 10-6 with no bad losses. Our guys are struggling on both sides of the ball to transition because:
- we lost our on court leader to injury
- our best offensive weapon is in an awful shooting slump
- the guy we need to step up is a freshman who was injured for most of the pre-season
- we’re trying to integrate 2 players who just became eligible

This team is nowhere near it’s potential ceiling. In fact, it’s probably at the floor.

Let’s see where we’re at by the end of February. Some winnable games coming up, maybe we can build some confidence and chemistry.

$4.3 million: Just a reminder that Mark Dantonio is now scheduled to collect $4.3 million due to a retention clause in an old contract. Woke up this morning, was still employed….$4.3 million new smackers headed to the bank account.

Bruce is at Auburn. And Bruce is a huge cheater. Go become an Auburn fan.

I wasn't happy with the way Barnes handled the UCLA thing, during or after. He made this business. He deserves the criticism. He spent up a lot of fan equity.

My point remains that he took a bunch of players that no one wanted, many here criticized for taking and put together a team that was among the most successful in Tennessee history.

Yeah, Bruce is a cheater. So what? Cheating goes on at every major athletic institution across the country. I’ll take him over Barnes 10 times out of 10. As I’ve stated a couple of times, I personally really like Rick. Stand up guy, fine basketball coach. That doesn’t mean he gets a pass.
