It was clear Johnson was trying to subvert expectations. I just think he did it too often and at the expense of too much.
Changing a character for the sake of conflict is understandable, but I question doing it the way he did. Taking an iconic, generational hero and deciding to make him a family-foresaking coward was not the direction I would have chosen. I think it's pretty understandable many fans question this decision.
I also think that hard left put Episode IX in a tough spot.
Still not sure what to make of the contradictory theme choices the movie created.
But I do sincerely appreciate your thoughtful response. I usually don't question the preferences of others. This one just makes me scratch my head more than most.
twssThere's a lot to unpack in your post. It's going to take me a while.
Seriously though. I was hoping for a little more meat. All I ever get is "I liked it." I mean, if that's the depth of the analysis, I can see where someone might like it. I've just never seen someone look at it in depth and break down where it's great.
That said, I guess we can agree you like it, I don't, and move on. Obviously, this isn't the place for such topics anyway.
Probably a homeless dwarf that slips LSD into your Lucky Charms and humps your leg while you're tripping.
