Signs OR The Happening are probably my two least favorite "reveal" moments in films. Still like both movies, and I love 10 Cloverfield Lane, but it's a trend in mainstream features that you always give that "happy" ending.
the happening was eerie as hell............

Being a Star Wars fanboy, I can tell you that arguing about Last Jedi is like arguing about politics. People either really liked it or really hated it, and no matter how many good points you make you will not change their opinion.
Oh I know. I remember coming out of the theater thinking, man that was awesome probably one of my favorites. Then hearing all the complaining about it was so confusing to me. But most of the complaints seemed like monday morning qb type stuff. After rewatching again recently I like it even more. Just a well done movie.

Lowest audience score of any Star Wars movie by a mile.

It's internally and externally illogical at many points, even in the main themes it puts forth. It breaks in-universe convention to the detriment of all other films and stories. It relies heavily on tired tropes to advance it's plot, despite calling itself "fresh." It congratulates itself for tiny "victories" while ignoring much larger issues. And it did absolutely nothing to set up the last film.

The illogical bit covers a whole bunch of problems with the movie. And all that without even touching on the lack of understanding of Luke's well-established narrative in episodes IV through VI, as you helped mention.

I can tell you're into the sad Star Wars movies, and that's OK, but you can do so much better than Last Jedi. It does look pretty at times. I'll give you that.
Lots of Star Wars junkies hate it because they're in their feelings about what they think some fictional characters "should" be doing. Maybe some of Luke's "well established narratives" needed to evolve. Maybe it's good they didn't blow up a 4th version of the death star. I enjoyed that it wasn't just some rehash of the same narratives. I do like the sadder ones a lot. But I like New Hope, Force Awakens, Rise of Skywalker and Solo a lot too. I don't even hate the prequels. I enjoyed them. But Empire, Rogue 1 and Last Jedi stand out to me because of their differences and how well done the stories are.

As a Star Wars fanboy, tell me why it's good. All the fans I know hate it so I've never gotten a good take in the other direction. I watched it a second time before Rise of Skywalker and liked it even less than the first time.

Heck, even combing the critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, they're a bunch of "Star Wars fans will love it, and everyone else will think it's OK." Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
