The Atlanta Braves

There is nothing that suggests Kiffin is a better coach than Leach up to this date.

Conference-USA or not, walking into a team that had gone 3-9 three straight times and immediately winning 11 games and the conference is more impressive than anything Leach has done as a head coach.

lol he won 11 games at WSU, which was the first time in program history and finished top 10

Mike Leach has won double digit games 2 times in 18 years. He’s a perfectly average football coach, and that’s perfectly fine, but I’d take Kiffin over him right now to run my program 10/10 times

It's Mississippi State. For the job that it is it's a pretty good hire IMO. Leach has pretty exhaustively proven that he can put up points no matter how shltty his talent is. He's never been able to get over the hump and actually win anything, but it's not like Miss State will be competing for championships no matter whom they hire. If he can convince Shoop to stay or bring in some other DC then he should be able to win some games and do all right for awhile. Which is all they're shooting for.

Leach bringing no punts or FGs football to the SEC. What a time to be alive! 😜

There is not a lot of separation between ML and LK, there just isn’t. Put Mike in the Conference USA and see what happens. They are in the same tier.

I disagree... but suppose I was remotely close to being of the same opinion...

You would then have to weigh the fact that one is 44, recruits like hell and fits his university and fan base like a glove while the other is 58, couldn’t be more of a cultural disconnect and is generally an all around pariah

I will grant that that's reasonably impressive, but he still didn't couldn't win the division despite the Pac 12 sucking out loud that year. In fact he's never won a division in 20 years of head coaching.

My take on Leach is that he's a guy who could have had a spectacular career as a superstar OC but just doesn't really have the skill set to be a great head coach. (Although admittedly he's making a lot more money.) He's prickly, he's a weirdo, he doesn't put much effort into recruiting, etc. And while he can take the offense anywhere, the weirdo stuff is going to play worse rather than better on a bigger stage, which any SEC job would be. I don't know exactly what success looks like for either Ole Miss or Miss State but I think Kiffin's more likely to achieve it.

Cultural disconnect is a good way to put it for sure lol
