The Atlanta Braves

To think NFL teams with 50 whole players making millions of dollars are smashing into each other as grown men on random Wednesday afternoons

LOL

To hear the coaches in the NFL talk about it, that is basically what they already do these days.

I know they don't do contact during the week, but camp? How's he going to come in as a rookie and earn his spot to being with without going through the grind all August? If you just fast forward to the part where Trey is an established veteran then yeah, practice wouldn't be an issue. It's how he gets there that I'm curious about.

Anyway this is hypothteical, because I'm sure he's going, which is almost always the right move for everybody and is for sure the right move for Trey.

The only possible reason for him to come back would be if he and his family had decided against him pursuing a career in the NFL for health reasons. Something like "UT is willing to structure their entire practice routine around Trey's health in a way that wouldn't be possible in the NFL, and so the long-term prognosis of a pro career is far riskier than the limited, closely managed contact he's getting in college. Therefore Trey's family has decided that the best thing for his future is for him to finish his education at UT, hopefully play through one more season, and then move on to life after football."

That's not what I expect to happen but that's the only way coming back makes any sense at all. He should go get paid. But it is difficult to imagine that an NFL team would be willing to let him go zero-contact during practice in the way he's been able to at UT.

Perhaps a slight variation, but similar reasons. Trey and his family realize that his football days are numbered, so he opts to finish up his education first and then head to the NFL and play football as long as he can. If he can’t get a first round guarantee, he might be able to get an insurance policy through the university that would have more value than what he could make in the NFL through his first couple seasons as a second/third round pick with no contract guarantees.

He’s coming back. He wouldn’t hype a press conference to announce he’s leaving. Plus, it’s a press conference for an offensive lineman. I love Trey as much as the next guy, but he’s still an offensive lineman. This is essentially a publicity stunt for the continued positive direction of the program IMO

Agree

I guess I’m an idiot, I didn’t realize Trey lost his mother in high school.

I also gotta say, that dude is no nonsense. Not sure I’ve heard a college athlete like him be so direct and simple with his answers.

No nonsense is a good way to put it. Remember when he beat the piss outta an Auburn(?) commit at a camp for stealing his headphones? Knew right then.

Mike Leach to Mississippi State is perfect. Nobody loves 8 win seasons more

It's Mississippi State. For the job that it is it's a pretty good hire IMO. Leach has pretty exhaustively proven that he can put up points no matter how shltty his talent is. He's never been able to get over the hump and actually win anything, but it's not like Miss State will be competing for championships no matter whom they hire. If he can convince Shoop to stay or bring in some other DC then he should be able to win some games and do all right for awhile. Which is all they're shooting for.

(It's possible of course that I just have PTSD from that one night a couple of years ago that it looked like we'd hired Leach ourselves and I went all the way through the stages of grief to eventual acceptance of the hire as a "zig instead of zagging" concept.)
