Pro Football Focus not impressed with our OL play this year

Neither is having a joke fly over your head. Just saying that dismissing all analytics nowadays is like not doing film study.
I know what you're saying and I assure you that nothing YOU say flies over my head. Lighten up, Marie. You'll live longer.

Yeah, clearly I’M the one wound up here.

I’d say OK boomer, but I’m probably older than you are dammit.

First, our Oline was that bad. In the first 3 or 4 games. We rotated players like turnstiles until we could find a solid group. It was ugly. Once we set a group of starters, and the 2 freshmen got their legs under them, we did MUCH BETTER. I would say maybe 50th or so out of 125?

Secondly, the QBs had MUCHO TIME to throw unless the other team brought 6 or 7 instead of 4. Plenty. What the other guy posted about JG is correct. ...he is terrible. He locks on to 1 receiver, stares him down, waits until he has made his last cut.. then pauses for a split second to realize it...then throws late and usually behind or too high for the receiver. Some of his longest completions thise year, most of them I'm fact, were 50/50 balls that he under threw by 3 to 5 YARDS...we just had 2 senior receivers who can consistently win those contested catches. He should have been picked so many times its pathetic.

Oh...and he holds the ball forever and is the SLOWEST QB on our roster running. Period. The slowest hands down. 90% of VN is so done with his garbage QB play that they would pay him to transfer...dead serious. I got 50 on it myself. So done with him...and quietly I promise you many of his teammates know much better than we do that his play is by far the weakest link on this team. Of we had just an AVERAGE SEC passer we would have won 9 regular season games this year. 10 with the bowl game...

So over him making the Oline and offense in general look so bad. Holds the freaking ball forever, every throw is LATE to the point that every single color analyst that has called our games this year calls him out for it....and they are normally hesitant to do that...

Please transfer JG...you're a tough kid...but you will never be a good SEC QB. You should have never started a game...and would not have on any other team in the SEC except maybe UK. Thanks for the effort. Go. Please

These people are idiots. Our offensive line play has not only improved throughout the season but was on the verge of being a real strength.

Yeah, that analytic chart really worked well here under Butch. All joking aside they take out several factors and there's more to the game than stats and PFF really digs into meaningless stats. Analytics according to PFF focus tell us that JG and the QB from UAB are 2 of the top QB's in the country, is that true?

Everyone likes to point to moneyball as an example of analytics working and they love to use the Boston Red Sox as to how that system can work. Well it does work, sort of. What they don't tell you is the year Boston won the World Series in 2004 using "moneyball", they also had the 2nd highest payroll in the MLB.

In 2002, while all the Oakland A's had nice on base %'s they still were a team of crappy ball players and guys who nobody wanted. That 2004 Red Sox roster was full of future HOF's.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything so wrong in my entire life, good Lord.

People just think PFF uses analytics only, which is completely wrong. They actually start from watching film on every play. Their individual or position grades are mainly based on their film study and they use a grading system like most football coaches.

Two freshmen tackles and a first year guard. Remember the first 3 games Pruitt was moving people around. Kennedy missed a lot of games. It is what it is.

But UK the 5th best in the country with LSU ranked 30th? C'mon man this is complete bunk.

113. Tennessee Volunteers
Highest-graded player: OG Trey Smith – 77.7 (14th)

Without Smith, the Volunteers' overall grades plummet and look just downright awful on the offensive line. Collectively, they ranked 124th in pass-blocking grade and 76th in run-blocking grade, all but undoing a great season by Smith, who finished as the 14th highest-graded guard in the country.

92. Florida

59. Texas A&M
48. Missouri
42. Miss St
30. LSU
28. Auburn
5. Kentucky (surprised by this one)
3. Alabama
2. Georgia

Numbers don’t lie......my A$$!

Honestly, how long has it been since we had a really strong offensive line? It has to be at least 15 years or so. I have hopes this line will be really good but man we've had unimpressive lines for a long time.

I would say friend better make serious headway in year 3 if he wants to stick around. Qb play didn't help them either.not seeing field well and holding in to ball too long. Couple that with Chaney being very selective of what plays he ran when didn't help

I typically trust the analysis from Pro Football Focus, but my personal “eye test” doesn’t align with this.

I felt we were much closer to mediocre this year than terrible.
