'20 TN DE Jay Hardy (Auburn commit)

Whoa now, I'm not "turning on Nieds." Just repeating what our message board full of experts here said: that the DW situation was in "good hands with Nieds." I don't care about DW any longer but I would like to know if Nieds really has some traction here flipping Hardy to us. He is certainly not going to tell us............so we go on what we read here and other websites. To be honest I don't care what Nieds did last year, it's this year I care about. Calm down friend.
You want to know absolutes about recruiting...that is funny 🤣

It doesn't matter what I want to happen, or think is going to happen. I personally think the kid is yankin our chain, but I could very well be wrong. Hardy not signing during the ESP could be a good sign for us in regards to landing the kid, so I understand the optimism, but this dude has already proven himself fickle by his actions...hence my personal apprehension. There are no guarantees in recruiting, and guys like AV, and coaches like Nieds have to approach recruiting from a optimistic place.

This post is spot on. By all accounts on DW, Nieds and Pruitt had the mom on board, and he silently committed to us, hence the optimism. Same with Hardy all signs pointed to him being a Vol before he committed, and he didn’t sign early when Auburn was pressuring him.

I think some people expect our coaches to be mind readers and fortune tellers to foresee all the twists, turns, and lies that happen in recruiting.

I just had a feeling DW was milking the cow is why I did not think he was coming, but to be fair I thought last years DW was doing the same thing until he actually signed, and in his case literally ALL signs pointed to UT.

I am naturally a sort of pessimistic person, so when kids yank us around, or play patty cake with us, it is hard for me to believe they will end up here. I hope we get Hardy, it will solidify even more the 3 DL rotation for the next 4 years.

We don't have to have him, but it would be great to get him.

Who’s blaming Neids? Or turning on him?
Stating he didn’t land one is just stating facts .
Every team has a “Neids” and expect every one they recruit to sign!
The problem on here are the ones that make out like Neids or AV are some super heroes,
And cant miss, then when the others make any statement that is true about when they do miss, they are attacking or turning on them.
Is it fair to send BN to a recruit that's already made his mind up and tell him to change the kid's mind, then characterize it as "striking out" or "whiffing" when he can't? No.

From what has been said in The DW thread he has been recruiting him for at least 4 years!!
Thats why some were CONFIDENT he would be a vol! Hardly think his mind was made up 4 years ago.
Is it fair to say he didn’t close the deal or struck out? Yes it is.
So what, you’re not going to land every recruit and it’s not turning on BN to say he struck out on him.
Look ahead , not back.

"Look ahead, not back"
But you're the one that asked why we should expect him to land Hardy after DW?

I asked that? Don’t remember, but maybe I did.
But I am looking forward, asking about Hardy.
Legit Question. Vols are lucky to have him on staff and does a good job recruiting but i ain’t hero worshipping him like some on here do.
I say we got a 50/50 shot because it seems to be down to Us or UA.
You got something else , inside scoop to make me to EXPECT to sign him?
If not I’ll just still HOPE, not expect just because BN May be recruiting him.

so wait..it’s down to us and Alabama? Is Auburn out now? 😉

My brother threw a baseball close to 90 mph as a Fr in HS and led our conference in HR's. EVERYONE wanted to tell him what he should do... where he should go to college, which camp he should attend, whether he should try to go directly to the minors, what he should eat, how he should work out,... just a constant drone of well-meaning people trying to tell him what he should do for his own good.

By the time he was a senior in HS... he couldn't stand it. He hated playing. He hated people talking to him about it. He wanted nothing to do with it. He finished the season and wanted it to be finished. The baseball coach where he went to college called him two or 3 times per week during fall ball trying to get him to come out. He wouldn't even talk to him if he didn't answer the phone.

He still regrets his decisions... but people were driving him nuts.

My point is that Hardy has probably had everyone in his ear telling him that he had to go to UT so much.... that he just doesn't want to hear it any more. UT may be and probably is a better choice for him. But does it matter if he's come to the point of being sick of people telling him what was best for him?

Have no idea what you're carrying on about, "Hero worship" etc..

Definitely don't know why you think I care if you're "expecting" or "hoping". I just said if you're talking about looking forward, then DW has nothing to do with anything here.

Disagree. Highly touted players want to be wined , dined and 69'd. It would be nice if they realized that when a coaching staff feels confident that they are bought in that the staff will turn a lot of attention elsewhere to make the team he is going to be on much better by recruiting others. Unfortunately some just don't get that and want the attention for themselves. I am sure when he got cabin'd at Aubby that he felt like a king if the staff had gotten a little distant.
Ok, again, if the guy needs attention to make a decision, and will flip to another team after 1 visit because he got the attention he craved from the other team that he had already told he was committing to......he’s a diva.

This got me thinking. My son is really into baseball. Thanks

I kinda agree, but 17 / 18 year boys, as a general rule, are generally pretty self-centered, especially if they are 4/5 star football recruits. Most of these kids will have to grow up in the 4-5 years they are in college.

I'm more worried about the ones who seem to only be out for themselves at the expense of their teammates. That's more of a red flag IMO. I don't see anything like that with Hardy.
