Yep, that is why he set records for taking care of the ball and has a top ten completion percentage and ypa huh? Lmao
His throwing pct decreased but his winning pct increased, starter or not he played a role in all 8 wins. Those records mean so much right? Like those records have obviously translated into so many wins, right?
It’s funny in your crusade to drop stats, you can never actually post the stats that matter and those are production stats. Please tell us all the records he has set with touchdowns and passing yards.....
Since he became starter at UT, teams are 13-18 and he started all but 5 of them. 3 because he got benched and 2 because the staff was sensitive to what fan base would say with him being announced so they started Shrout and Jennings.
Over that same span, he averaged less than 200 passing yards per game and less than 2 passing TD’s per game...... All with the same receiving unit that consisted of Callaway and Jennings and then a two year transfer in DWA and Palmer.
But yes, let’s tout a % record, which by they way, he regressed in.

BM will always be a high risk/ high reward qb. That’s part of what made him who he is. The question is if that’ll ever fit Pruitts idea of what a qb should be.And the only reason JG seen the field again was an injury to BM and his freshman mistakes of turning the ball over. He will have an entire winter and spring to fix the turnover issues, will he? I don‘t know but what I do know is JG has had 2 years under Pruitt to fix his issues and he is no better today than he was two years ago.
Why do you not care what the stats say? Go look at the conference stats as a whole and I think you'll see that only a few teams in the SEC currently possess the QB play we are all yearning for. You'll also find out that after the top 4 or 5 guys JG matches up very favorably with the rest of the pack. BM got to start 4 games this year, a 1/3 of the season basically and he could not get it done. We dropped 2 games we probably should not have and JG along with numerous other factors played a role in those losses, other than that, we won every single other game we should have won this season and JG played a role in every one of them. You can't see that Maurer has a higher ceiling, that's pure speculation, his stats show he's terrible at decision making so his ceiling could actually be lower if he can't get that fixed, his past and current twitter drama is not helping his cause any either. I'm disgusted we didn't win 10 games this year as well but putting all of that on JG is shameful I feel.Winning games doesn’t necessarily translate into being a great QB. I understand you haven’t said he’s amazing. But he’s not even average, I don’t care what stats he has. Our defense has played a HUGE role in our current streak. If your good with another 7-8 wins against teams we know we should beat, even when we struggle to do so, then JG is your guy. I however want more for TN football. You can see by watching BM he has a higher ceiling. Stronger arm, mobile to start with. If they can calm him down a bit I’d rather see him next year. He has a full off season to learn and progress, something JG has never done. I’d love to think HB is our guy, but that’s yet to be see.
I've not seen a single person on here claim he's a great QB but I've heard a bunch claim he's terrible. I don't think he's either and I think he's the best option we had this year and he'll be our best option to start the season next year, with a very short leash with Bailey waiting in the wings. I've always maintained that Maurer and JT were recruited as projects and backups and that JG would get the majority of the snaps this year and would go in into '20 as the starter. I still think that happens but I think if Bailey ever gets into the lineup he'll stay there for 3 years minimum. He had a 4-3 record as a starter this year. Yes he had a hand in all of our games but his record as a starter is 9-16 as a starter for his career. Regardless, choosing to cherry pick stats that are indicative of production (Touchdowns, Passing Yards, Yards per Game) just shows how weak the argument is. Yes, JG did set a record for throws without a pick and setting a season completion % record.
However if that’s the first go to in somehow backing the claim that he some good/great QB, you’re losing the argument.
He can be the best QB on the roster in a given year or season. That doesn’t mean he’s a great QB at the same time.
At the end of the day, having less than 200 yards per game average and 2 touchdowns per game over a 2.5 year starting career sucks. It’s no surprise his record as a starter is 9-16.
Thank the Lord our QB room is getting a generational QB recruit (hype) and returning QB’s all have experience playing in the SEC.
I would say 8-3 as a QB this year based on the QB play in all of those wins and losses. Maurer based on the same play was basically 0-2 even though he started in a couple of the wins.He had a 4-3 record as a starter this year. Except the fact that JG has never shown a fighting chance vs the likes of UGA and Bama. Maurer however did as a true freshman. In fact many people feel we beat Bama had Maurer not come out. Don’t fool yourself into thinking it was just a coincidence that he played his best games vs the best competition. He was high risk no reward this year.

I'm just curious as to how a bad QB like JG can have the exact same number of TDs through the air as a great QB like Burrow? My point is that JG is not awful as many here say, I certainly don't think JG is great nor do I think he'll have a historical season like Burrow but I believe this one stat alone shows that JG is not as awful as the neverJG crowd says and that he in deed can show improvement again next year.

I agree. You’re never going to stand even a punchers chance vs the likes of UGA, Bama, UF, OK or LSU playing not to lose as evidenced by the past few years of JG at qb. With teams that good you gotta score points and play good defense. With BM at qb we were in the game in the 4th vs UGA. Unheard of these days with Tennessee. We had a real chance to actually beat Bama as well even with his inexperience. To me that’s a sign of future potential when a freshman played his best games vs the stiffest competition. But in order to beat those teams you need a qb willing to take chances so they know they better defend every blade of grass.I am afraid Pruitt will always want a game manager qb. It appears he doesn't waant a high risk, high reward type. Saban was the same with Hurts, and Tua. Saban wanted Hurts, even though it was obvious Tua was better. Tua came in only when Saban was backed into a corner losing to Ga because Hurts could not get the team moving. It appears Kirby is the same picking Fromm over Flields. If you want a game manager to as qb and count on a good running game and defense, jg is the man. But in todays college football you cannot win sec that way. Les Miles at lsu had the same type of offensive style. you can win 9 maybe 10 games a year like this but no championships.
What is all this fascination with #1 reps? The starter works with the first team most of the time but everyone gets about the same number of reps until the season begins and then it isn’t much different.Nope. However, if you give Maurer all the #1 reps until this fall he is head and shoulders above JG come game #1.
JG is a good practice QB, thats it.
