Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I never said he was “the man”. I don’t know what that definition is actually. But this dude can clearly coach better than anyone we’ve had for a while. He’s learning on the job and clearly getting better. Will he win championships here? I don’t know. But for the first time since CPF I think it’s a possibility.

If he can’t win championships here then he isn’t the man. As I said next season will tell us everything we need to know.

For example. How many games was CBJ winning and found a way to lose. I can come up with 9-10 games and not a single game that CBJ was losing and found a way to win.

Now....in 2 years.....how many games was CJP losing and found a way to win

No.....no it won’t. We are not winning any championships next year. Next year is likely an 8-9 win. We can be improved in every area and people will still be saying “next year will tell us everything “

Much harder schedule next year. I too am on record with 8 and 4...

Now 2021?? Looking for 10 wins or more. UGA and Bama will be the only teams on the schedule with as much talent. 9 and 3 would be acceptable...but that would mean we likely lost to UGA UF and Bama...that would suck.

CBJ - 1 GA is the only one I can think of
CJP - 1 Indiana

Read in one of the FF threads that it's been 471 games since an FBS team has come back down 13 with 5 left on the clock. Heck of a thing.

You’re smarter than that.
Others were saying things they didn’t mean too. “No energy “. “Did not care to be there” “unprepared”. All ********. It came down to QB play. this coach is still learning on the job but he’s better than anything we’ve had in a long time by a wide margin
I agree with your assessment about qb play. I posted in the FF the other day, when an Indiana fan wanted to know about our team, that we would be a very competitive team if we had a really good qb. I said that if we had Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, or Justin Fields that we would probably be a 10 or 11 win team, and should have been 9-3 with the ones we have.

Our defense must get a whole lot better for us to be a 10-11 win team against decent competition. CJP was lucky this season, IN makes the number of teams we beat that finished with a winning record 2. The rest blew our doors off.

Harrison Bailey

Go VOLS!!! GBO🍊!!!

Is he the next Peyton Manning to come save us & put us on the winning football map again?
I know a lot of Tenn football fans are putting all their marbles in the bag for this guy.....
I'm at the point where I have to wait and see what happens.....I don't know much about him other than what I've read.

Yeah he's Peyton 2.0... apparently. (eye roll)

I'm thinking that with really good qb play that we could lose to all of the big 3 on our schedule (Alabama, Florida, Georgia), win a bowl game, and be 10-3, or beat 1 of them and be 11-2.

Good QB play is a must for us to win 8 regular season games next season, to step up to 9-10 regular season wins our D must improve dramatically.

Well, next year we have Oklahoma instead of BYU, so that may be a little steeper hill to climb.

A must for next season is a couple d-linemen that can put pressure on the QB. We don't have that now, just about all of our pressures and sacks came from running blitzes/stunts and not straight up line play.

I can't argue with that.

3. UK, IN, UAB.

We nearly lost that game last night when we quit blitzing. 1st half we held them to 69 yards total offense. 60 by the QB.. we were sending safeties and LB almost every snap. For some reason in the 2nd half we only rushed 4, and he had way too much time back there and had some success. We still only gave up 1 TD. I just knew we were beat at the end of the 4th when we only rushed 3 and dropped 8 in Dime coverage...they had a 25yd and a 13yd completion. 38 yards in 2 plays put them right at FG range. We blitzed the next snap and got a sack.

That QB made a great play with that scramble and lateral...and it almost won them the game. Their kicker covered that 52yds no problem, he just hooked it . If that QB didnt make that great play it would have been 58 or 59yds out. No chance.

Ramel Keyton looked good and he was HBs leading receiver 2 years in HS...look for a breakout season next year. Hyatt...our incoming WR with the laser timed 4.31 forty was named the MVP of the Shrine Bowl...which is NC all state vs SC all state HS all star game. He will stretch the field for us and keep those safeties deep so we can hopefully run Gray from day 1....he is that fast. Faster than Gray. Plus we bring back Palmer and Johnson, who led us in catches last year. We are losing 2 good WR this season, but we are getting faster at WR in the process. Wish we could keep Jennings forever though. So tough.

We really lose very little on defense next year. Toot will take Bitulis slot and captain the defense. We have the Memphis 3 plus more coming at LB also. Crouch and Peterson will have another year in the system, and we will finally be deep at DT and DE. Corners will be unchanged, safety will be quite interesting as a bunch of kids will be competing for those 2 slots. You can see CJP personality in our hard nosed defense.

Last year the top teams blew us out. This year we led UGA at the half, and nearly beat Bama. Only the g.a.y.t.o.r.s. made us look bad. Next year if we can just get average QB play out of anyone except JG, we should be able to run with anyone we play. We will lose some games. Probably 4 regular season losses.. maybe 3...but nobody should smoke us. Nobody. Go Vols.

No.
The D is terrible.
Do not let facts get in the way of a narrative

Indiana vs. Tennessee - Game Summary - January 2, 2020 - ESPN

Look at the win probability graph.
With 9:22 remaining IU had a 97.6% chance of winning.
With 4:50 remaining they still had a 92% chance of winning.

I guess there is not better proof that a 97.6% chance of winning also means you have a 2.4% chance of losing.
Strange things happen, it's nice to be on the happy end for a change.
