Maurer got the start and first reps earlier in the year until he got knocked out. He didn’t show out then either. You can tell the game still hasn’t slowed down for him yet. JG isn’t the answer but the best of bad choices. Better o-line recruitment and play will allow better QB development in the future.

He's got too much potential to sit behind JG another year with Harrison Bailey coming in as well.

Especially with a staff ,that at the moment, is not very adept at developing QBs.

You can't make fine porcelain from red clay. Red clay is tough, but you really can't do much with it without A LOT of help.

I feel like we lose grad transfer Hill. I don't think we have even given him a scholly yet, PWO. I thought Strout would be gone but yea, maybe he waits for a grad transfer. I wouldn't rule out CJP grabbing up a grad transfer QB if a good one surfaces.

Not to throw fuel on the rumor fire, but I along with a fellow Volnation friend were at the game. After all the award and celebrations, players thanking fans. Maurer was the only player, that took off his shoulder pads and jersey. Thought it was strange but who knows.
Was a freaking awesome game and game experience.
To’o’ is the new leader of this team in defense heading into 2020.

JP couldn't keep the ****ing shovel out of his hand in the first half though. Just had to pray that he didn't dig the hole so deep he couldn't climb out. Not the way to play football.

I don't think it is totally established yet that he had concussions. There has been indications that it was his neck.

I think he transfers. I believe both he and Shrout workout and compete through spring practice to get a feel for where they will be on the depth chart. Then leave after the Spring semester.

It wasn’t the right time to “develop” a QB this way. We needed wins desperately this year. JG gave us the best shot at those this year. Hopefully next year that will be someone else because we know JG’s ceiling. But for this year, he was our best option.

And on top of that, Maurer was getting a large part of first team reps during practice after JG broke his hand.

How did that work out at Bama ?

I made the mistake of reading this as I was waking up. Yeah, he did not look happy at all at the end of the game from the highlights on SEC now, and I was going to try and capture that and post it. He gone.

Before he was bold and confident. He's looked really tentative to me afterwards. I hope he can get past it. He's playing like he hears footsteps.... which isn't abnormal or irrational.

Absolutely right. Also one drive with Maurer in netted 3 points. He may have thrown 2 bad passes but he still looks more like a leader when playing.

Practice reps are not the issue. He misread the coverage on every throw 3 for 3. He should have tuck it and ran on all three, IU was inviting the qb run.

I'm sure that Pruitt wishes that Maurer and Shrout had gotten more action. We were in a lot of low scoring and close games the 2nd half of the season, where ball security was crucial. Pruitt went with the more experienced QB. Still, Maurer did get more playing time than most true freshman QB's ... and the results were mixed.

Very good post. If BM doesn't get hurt against Miss St and is healthy all year Coach was willing to ride with him the rest of the way. Then got hurt at Alabama. So by the time Ky comes along BM was not the same seeing the game from what experience he would gain from time he missed.
