Their record sounds nice coming out of the B1G at 8-4 overall but their 8 wins were against teams with a combined record this season of 25-72 including D2 Eastern Illinois. They didn't beat a team with a winning or even a .500 record this year. In their 4 losses they were outscored on average of 41-20. I don't think tonight will be a cake walk but I think some posters are putting to much stalk into IU's 8-4 record.

I posted some of this on another thread, but since playing tennis on different courts is kind of the norm around here...

Indiana didn't lose to anyone they were expected to beat. The same cannot be said for us. Indiana was a lot more consistent than we were. The average margin of loss you cite is heavily skewed by their blowout loss to Ohio State in a game no one expected them to win. If you look a little deeper into their record, you'll see that they were tied with Michigan State on the road, until the Spartans hit a FG with 0:05 left in the game. They also trailed by just a FG at State College, until Penn State scored a TD with less than 2 minutes left.

We have 5 all-conference players. They have 6 -- plus 2 honorable mention. They have a better, more consistent QB. Their all-conference tailback is 6'2", 235 lbs. and has more rushing yards and more 100-yard games than anyone on our roster. Their all-conference WR has 1,000+ yards receiving -- more than our top receiver. They also have 3 other receivers with 500+ yards. We have 1 receiver, beside JJ, who has >500 yards. They have an all-conference placekicker and a kick returner that averages 20+ yards per return. Their defense has given up 3 points and 15 yards per game average more than our's. All of our wins came against teams with a combined losing record, too.

Apologies for those who've seen this info already.

I'm gonna stir that one up with a stock of celery.

I know how the 8-4 versus win/loss record looks for both teams but looking at the ESPN FPI, both teams are closer than you think. Now, I know EPSN hates us and whatever but this game is not going to be a cake walk game. IU will play hard and keep it close through 3 quarters. JJ is the difference in the second half. Our D plays good all game and in the end the Vols win.

You never know about the team that wins games they should. Mediocre teams or great teams both wins them.

I'm concerned about their ability to generate 30 point games ritually. We do not want to get into a shootout with these guys. We're too schizophrenic.

They have a very productive passing offense. And they use the threat of the pass to spread the defense and then hand it off to their big tailback off-tackle. He is a straight-ahead downhill runner who is patient and waits for his blocking. He hits gaps quickly when they open up and our LBs will have to stay on top of him all night long. They also pass to him on check-downs and designed plays and he is a good receiver out of the backfield.

We lost to Georgia St. I don’t care who Indiana beat or didn’t beat we cannot overlook or be overconfident today against them or we will get beat.

For sure bc the Ga St game has so much to do with this game today, 4 months later, against a completely different team.

Even if we beat Ga St by 90 then you still wouldn’t want the team to overlook IU. So Ga St has no bearing on this game whatsoever.

I understand why we commiserate about GAST but we aren't the same team! If we were, we might have beaten Vandy this year and that would be it! You have to look at the progress l, especially toward the end of the season.

I took a look at the end of IU's last few games, they had 2 weeks to prepare for State and lost, then lost to Michigan and barely beat a horrible Purdue team. THE Vols have played better every game, especially through the last 3 games of the season.

All that said, add in the experience of bowl game prep with the coaching staffs, and we got'em! Our beloved Vols are gonna come out and play fast and hit hard. UI gonna be soggy cornbread when we get done with them!
