This why Kirby doesn’t scare me.

stupid would be saying that we shouldnt be getting beat by them since they havent had a recruiting class outside the top 20 in 15 years. So yes you would sound STUPID! The place recruits itself. Dooley won a NC there and he wasnt that good a coach! So yes if you think just because he has beaten UT (although he is 3-1 against UT not undefeated when he snatched a loss from the jaws of a win since they were up on UT to point Dobbs shouldnt have been able to hail mary a win). So yes he is 3-1 against UT wow, whats his record against the best the SEC has to offer? you know LSU, Auburn and Bama? You know the ones he needs to actually beat to win a NC.

No one can dispute Kirby's recruiting success, however, it appears he is a poor field coach based on several games with very poor decisions made during the game and his old style football offensive schemes. He does have great players, and it appears that will continue, next year will really show what he has, as if I am not mistaken all of Richts players will be gone. The whole team belongs to kirby.

Kirby made it to the natty, Richt did not. Richt had 15 years to make it and had the playoffs for a few of those years and still couldn't make it. Auburn did stomp UGA, but then UGA stomped Auburn when it mattered. If the BCS was still around UGA would have benefited from stomping the number 2 team at that time. You think the BCS is more important, I think the natty is. Again, agree to disagree.

Smart ONLY made it because they take 4 teams, not 2 but 4, you want to move the goal line to support yours but you were WRONG, Richt ended with the better record. Now you can say that he played for a NC but did he win one? pretty sure he didnt and he in fact blew it not winning the NC. Also again Richt if he had a playoff would have been in the playoffs just like Kirby, however he didnt have that chance because they ONLY took the top 2 best teams in the country which if we didnt take 4 into the playoffs GA was not one of those, they were ranked 3rd just like Richt's 2002 team was. So again please quit moving the goal posts and admit his season was not better, it was a different time and place because national championships use to be only 2 possible teams while now 4 have that chance. 13-1 is better than 13-2 and IF Smart had won that NC this wouldnt be a conversation but since he seems to blow one every year that he shouldnt we are having the conversation. Smart=Richt right now

I'll take Kirby over Pruitt every day of the week

I wouldn't. Pruitt molded our defense into the overall 29th ranked unit in the country this season after being 72nd last season. If they take another step forward like that in 2020 we might have a top 15 defense or better next year. Kirby didn't build anything. To be fair Pruitt hasnt either, not yet, but he will.

Smart made it to the natty, so he got further. While Richt never made it to a natty, he did make it to a play-in game in 2012 and he lost. There's also no way to know where the BCS would rank 2017 UGA and how Richt would do in a playoff game, though we do know he was winless in play-in games. No one is moving the goalposts. I said Smart had UGA's best season in 40 years because he was the only UGA coach to take a team to the national championship in that time frame. Richt had the playoffs while at UGA, never made it. Richt had the playoffs at Miami, never made it. I'll take Smart playing for a national championship over Richt playing for a BCS bowl. I also don't recall Richt making 3 straight BCS bowls.

Again, its clear we aren't going to agree on this. Let's just agree to disagree and stop hijacking this thread.

What play-in game? He won the SEC title that year only losing during middle of the season to Florida in Jax 20-14. Again, if no 4 team playoff UGA doesnt play for a natty at all, they were 3rd best team in the country just like Richt's 2nd season in 2002. So again you keep moving goal posts trying to make yourself not wrong, however 13-1 is better compared to 13-2 because NEITHER won a NC and if not for a 4 team playoff UGA is playing some meaningless bowl game like you said Richt's 2002 team did. So no its not a agree to disagree, you got proven wrong and now trying to move the sticks. Also Rodrigo was another moving thing, he made a 55 yarder in the playoffs, YET he won the Groza this year. They arent in the playoffs, they are playing a meaningless bowl somewhere as you say. Now he should have won the Groza as a sophmore which was his best year when he went 87% on field goals, but this year he went 80.6 60th in county with a long of 50 where he was 3-5 while Cimiglia was 83.3 tied for 38th in country and hit a 53 yarder and was 2-2 from 50 plus yards with a 51 and 53 yarder. Awards given mean very little was proven first by Heisman with Majors and later by Manning not getting his.

Based on what?

Smart inherited a loaded team. They had had SEC level development. The culture might have been on the complacent side but it wasn't toxic. Richt's flaws weren't in recruiting or player development.

Pruitt inherited a team with very suspect talent and a significant lack of depth. The culture was poison after Jones. Development was horrible... and made worse because much of it was intentional. Jones' revolutionary ideas about how to do things... were implemented well... and a complete failure.

Smart could end up being a better head coach. There's a lot that goes into it beyond the ability to coach and develop players. But right now, I think what Pruitt has done as far as improving the guys he inherited is more impressive than Smart.

but but but STJ its all in the wins and losses. I mean Smart could have won a NC, of course if not for his boneheaded decisions they actually WIN that NC instead of having Bama win the 58th or whatever number they now claim. Same with the USC game this season and plenty of others in his short tenure. Now I do blame Pruitt for not having the team ready to play and beat Ga State as well as BYU, however he took over a broken program with 2 losing seasons in the past 5 while UGA has had 2 losing seasons since 1996. UGA between their recruiting advantage and facilities should have a case full of NC trophies and yet they still have less than UT does. I dont see that stopping with Smart either unless he starts making some much better critical decisions during games.

I look forward to when fans of other teams can say our coach sucks because he won 13 games and made the National Title game. You sure you weren't a UGA fan in the 90's because you sound as idiotic as they did when they downplayed Fulmer, who is very similar to Smart in his record, in the situation he took over and with the one coach/team he hasn't been able to get over yet.

Of course it is. Nothing I said undermines that. Pruitt could in reality be a much better coach than Smart yet be fired while Smart has a long tenure at UGA. I am only addressing the issue of which is a better "coach". Does anyone actually question that Smart had a better starting point?

Pruitt will always have those stains on his record. They're real. No matter how we might try to excuse or explain them away... they never should have happened.

I don't know what Smart will or won't do at UGA. So far, I think Pruitt's straight forward way of handling players is good. Just an outsider looking on from a distance... but there seems to be at least some questions about how straight forward Smart is with players.

In two years I’ll bet you change your tune.
I bet I won't. Pruitt has struggled being a head coach. He has done nothing to this point that should garner the high praise he's getting from some of our deluded fans. I want him to do well as much as the next guy, but to this point he's looked like a guy in over his head

What do you base your opinion that he is over his head on?

Both teams had Michel, Chubb, Wims, ridley, Nauta, and Hardman. Eason also had McKenzie who was drafted by the Broncos in the 5th round I believe.
A year older and they didn’t lose hardly anyone, so they basically returned the whole team. That is huge.

yep and if he is head coach at UGA he would be winning big also, not sure why we have so many idiots on this board just like bigun above! Comparing us with 2 losing seasons in 5 years prior to Pruitt showing up compared to Smart who took over a program that went 9-3 the prior year and has been top 10 ranked in recruiting every year for the past 15 years. We really have some stupid fans or AT LEAST some stupid fans of other teams that come over here to read. You put Smart on UT as head coach and we dont have any better record than we do right now, maybe even worse, I mean at least we beat USCLeast this year! Right now in programs we are comparing apples to banana's. A pretty banged up 2001 BMW vs a new Porsche. YET they somehow think Pruitt should be winning big.

Dear Lord we have some really dumb people reading this board and hanging on Smart's jockstrap. Let me know when Smart has the NC that Fulmer does. Fulmer won it in his 6th season lets see if Kirby can do the same. You want to make a bet on him not being able to in the same timeframe? I am down for a Wager on it. Also if you think the situation is at all comparable, I shouldnt waste any more time on you, because you have the brain capacity of an amoeba. One took over because of a coach with health issues. The other took over a 9-3 team that was winning at a 74% win rate but no National titles since 1980. 4 seasons later still those no NC since 1980 and close means nothing except in horseshoes and hand grenades.
