Playoff Expansion

I was going to say just 16 because of the amount of games already scheduled plus the conference championship game, that makes it 13 for most schools. Take the schedule back to 11 games with the conference championship game and then playoffs starting from there.
FCS does it.....they are no different

Not arguing with you, but EVERY other division does it. So does high school

I’m all for expansion and making it a weekend of football with ticket packages much like basketball does or did I just don’t see football going that far with how serious they are about cutting down on injuries

Not every P5 champ could be among the top 8 though. Imagine a 8-5 Pac12 champ. No way they deserve a spot over a 10-2 SEC or Big Ten team
It can happen in the NFL.
Look at both NY Giants SB wins. Look at NCAA Basketball with the N.C. State and Villanova championships. Also an 8-5 Conference champion is possible but what are the percentages ? Almost zero is my guess.

Having four has already devalued the regular season and the bowls. I enjoyed the BCS. Unless you actually believe the best team always wins, why is a playoff superior to the BCS?

Because they have to actually play and win to be nc, picked from 4 teams instead of 2. Like this year I think Clemson is ranked 3, and they could win it all, who knows. They ususally play their best in the playoffs. I think the nc will be between lsu and clemson.

I keep hearing everybody argue between 4 and 8 teams in the playoffs. Personally I believe 4 is fine and any more than that just continues to devalue the regular season. Which is what makes college football great and unique. Which got me thinking..

Why doesn’t CFB just use the NFL 6 team method? Top 2 have byes. 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5. You could do the power 5 champions and one wild card team or just let the committee pick all 6. Nets 2 extra games and would be a happy middle ground for the debate. Just a random thought, what do you guys think?

If they didn't want to devalue the season, they would not have introduced targeting. But your idea would be better than 4. It helps insure if there is a non power 5 teams that deserves a shot at it, they would get in. With 5 power 5 conferences, it is a given those guys outside the 5 do not have a chance to get in. And if they have the audacity to win out? Well, good for them.

I wonder how many of players could lose millions of dollars if they get hurt in the playoffs?

Football is a very physical game, a player could get hurt in any game. I understand the risk but this is football. Many players have been hurt in regular season games that could have made it to the pros. Lattimore from sc is first one comes to mind. A career ending injury in a regular season game. Who knows Tua may be one of the ones also, time will tell if his injury ends his career.

Number of times that a team has played for conference title game with 3 or more losses:
SEC - 7 times
Big Ten - 2 times
ACC - 12 times
Pac12 - 9 times
Big 12 - 8 times

That’s quite a bit

But how many won to be the conference champion and what were their records ?

Gonna be LSU for sure. OK just suspended one of their top offensive and defensive players plus a so so WR.

If you add more teams you’re probably gonna have to cut at least one (and maybe more) regular season games...right now a team from a power 5 conference can play up to15 games....

With 4 we usually get the best teams in...at least most of the time

If you’ll notice, all the controversy is about who is the 4th best team. If we had any sense we’d say we don’t much care.

Bring back the UPI and AP polls. Split natty, who cares.

Actually.......24 teams just like FCS does it. Top 8 seeds get byes, the other 16 are made up of conference champs and at-large teams.

Simple, easy, fair.

Screw the AP and UPI crap. I grew up with watching the game on Saturday, and listening to people talk about those stupid polls. That is about as stupid as congress.

There are two things we can count on.... the law of unintended consequences and the blind greed of the NCAA.
When a proposal is presented that promises enough more money that the present schedule then we’ll have a new schedule
And the the schools and conferences will learn to game the system (4 game red shirt)so the rich will continues to stay rich
But we know one thing for sure, there will not be one second considering fan attendance, just the TV ratings
