To quote Patriots coach Bill Belichick, "on to Cincinnati".

It sure would be a good tonic for this past game to grab a win at Cincinnati on Wednesday. I live in Cincy so allow me to give you a short back round on what's going on here. The Bearcats had a bad loss on Saturday to that great east coast power, Colgate. It was bad not so much because of the opponent but because of the way it went down. UC has a new coach this year and he's not getting along well with their star player, senior Jarron Cumberland. This was illuminated on Saturday when Cumberland had a huge brain fart at the end of the game. He lost his mind and threw up a half court prayer of a shot with 5 secs left to go in a tie game. He either lost track of the score, the time or both. Of course it came nowhere near the basket and his teammate fouled a Colgate player on the rebound...Colgate hits one of two FTs and wins the game by one. Here's social media reaction and a video of it:

Social media reactions: UC Bearcats lose to Colgate after nightmarish final five seconds

UC is 6-4 but that includes a loss to Bowling Green, OH and two OT victories vs mediocre competition. Coach Brannen's comment after the debacle on Sat was something to the effect of "I need to be better about putting the right guys on the floor in key situations" meaning that Cumberland may see some bench time on Wed. Don't confuse Jarron with his cousin Jaevin Cumberland who is a pretty good player in his own right.

The Vols do need to be on their game to win this. UC is a major college basketball program and they're desperate for a win. Having said all that, right now UC looks like an NIT team to me come this Spring. I'll be at the game with orange on!

Interesting game. See who bounces. Hope it's us but who knows. Close to a toss up on paper. How's the home crowd support?

Usually pretty good hometown support. But their arena isn't as big as most SEC venues. Attendance for Colgate was about 10,500. I've seen them get really fired up and be a nice home advantage but I don't think Tenn will do that for them. They're a little disappointed with this team and they're still in non conference. They're still getting to know this new regime since hometown boy and former Bearcat Mick Cronin went off to UCLA.

I don't know if Colgate lost key players or not, but they were TN's 1st round opponent in the 2019 NCAAT.

Well, they can be mad at Barnes for NOT taking the UCLA job!

This being the first true road game is what scares me the most. Other than that, surely UT has to shoot better, just by the law of averages, plus defense always travel. Vols 70, Cincy 65

I'm predicting more of a Kevin O'Neill era score in Cincy. 46-42 Vols.

Really. I lnow this last game really showed UTs weaknesses, but Memphis and FSU have one thing in common, elite athletes and multiple NBA drafts picks even without Wiseman and Quinones. I think the offense wakes up and Cincy is kinda dumpster fire, right now. So if UT jumps on them, I can see them giving (quiting?) up on their new coach. Seems like he is on the verge of losing the locker room, imo. Especially, taking veiled shots at his supetstar. Jmo. But then UT destroys JSU and are sitting at 9-2 with 3 goods win and Wisconsin left on the ooc early schedule. I'll take it and so will the NCAA Tourney, so far

Really just teasing a bit based on some scores so far, but I can see Cincinnati slowing it down , being physical, etc, but I think we score more than that, but who knows. Rick will figure things out.
