Butch Jones???

I don’t at all disagree but Saban is the anomaly. ADs across the country started letting the coaches and their agents dictate terms and the buyouts have ballooned at an even faster rate than the salaries. Eventually they will wise up but who knows when. They think you have to play the game because if you don’t give the big buyout then the next school will. It’s time for someone to step up, get creative, and change the rules of engagement.
cut-throat agents have the upper-hand and that's just the way it is.

Don't forget the year Drooley recruited zero offensive linemen. Only thing I will give Butch is our uniforms looked the best they ever looked under him.

You're kidding, right? Butch's idea what to throw the checkerboards on everything. It was too much. I like the clean/simple look.

Like WTH they are wearing now? 1945 uniform look? No thanks. Your idea of clean is, if we take names off the back, and the power T is removed, being a Penn State wanna be. And that feels dirty. Actually, I liked the adidas look far better than the Nike version.

And take a wild guess what you can do with black cleats. I knew this was coming the moment Foolmer was hired. Called it the day it happened. And hate it more every time I see them.

I was pretty specific in my post what I didn't like about the Jones era unis....too much of the checkerboards. On the helmet stripes, on the pants, on the shoes, I don't really care what color shoes they wear. The old school thinking was black shoes made you look slower. Not sure if there is any truth to that.

We are on the same page with checkerboards on the unis. That was Nike putting their own spin on it. And that new font TENNESSEE logo? I could do without it. However, I liked the small details he did on the jerseys. Smokey grey? Perhaps a very thin border around numbers and stripes, 1/2 the width of the black border from the 90s. Just enough to make numbers pop.

If I could create a perfect Tennessee uni, something along the lines of the classic New York Jets uniform template, but with orange instead of green.

Butch is firmly cementing himself as the worst coach and biggest good for nothing to ever coach UT. Anyone else could have landed an assistant job two years ago and then spring boarded that into a HC position. Not Butch.

Do you think it's because he sucks, thinks too highly of his abilities and over-pricing his services or both? My gut says both.

I think it is he is livid off his buyout and learning how to make coffee for his boss. He surely will not learn how to respect coaches and players.

I think it’s all of the above. Factor in the Title IX issues and how he has handled himself the past 2 years, and it would give anyone pause who is considering hiring him.

Serious question...

Have any former players ever given Butch public support in any way shape or form? Obviously Dobbs is one of the most highly respected athletes to ever put on any University of Tennessee uniform, I really don’t remember him heaping a ton of praise in Butch’s direction pre or post firing . In a lot of cases the players will stick up for their embattled coach until the end, but I don’t ever remember that happening with Butch.

Peyton Manning always sticks up for the current coach until the end. I don't think that has as much to do with the coach vs. he's supporting UT and whomever the coach happens to be.

Our head coach? What are you saying Purple Tiger? Did Ogeron do that back in the day?

But to your point, they is an obvious difference between Pruitt and Jones. Pruitt was a real coach, on staff and paid accordingly. Butch Jones is, humiliatingly (except he's too stupid to be humiliated) an "intern" paid 35K a year. I'd call that smoking Saban's pole, for sure.

Saban knows that paying butch the trivial amount, makes UT lose more money.............

He knows that Butch doesn't contribute in any way other than that.

Its funny that not even Saban has been able to get him a new job. Seems like a waste of Saban's time to have him hanging around the sideline. He should make Butch buy a ticket to their games.

The payouts end next fall, so maybe Butch will get kicked to the curb :p

No doubt about that. Compare Jones' and McElwain's behavior since both were fired at UT and UF.

Jones:
Intern at Alabama for 2 years
Biggest story since then is pictures of him smoking cigars with players after Alabama's win over Tennessee

McElwain:
WR coach at Michigan for 1 year
Head coach at Central Michigan
Biggest story since then is sale of his Gainesville home for 400k loss in order to help out a family with 2 disabled children
