Two red zone picks is "absolutely dissecting" a team? I guess JG is a surgeon every game then.I’m in full support of Pruitt but I’ll always say the same thing. He severely damaged the future of the qb position at UT with his mishandling of it. And we won’t see the results of it until after 2020. Had he benched JG and never looked back at halftime of GAST we likely still lose to GAST. Maurer would’ve beaten BYU imo and he would’ve been getting acclimated to the speed of the game and used UTC as a punching bag. By the time UGA rolled around he would’ve been settled in and making better decisions. Which possibly means a better second half. He was absolutely dissecting MSU before landing on his head ang Alabama didn’t have an answer for him either. Imo his injury is the only reason Pruitt was EVER able to say “I told you so”. Because before that Maurer made him look like a fool for not doing exactly what we’re talking about.
HB will be a 5 star top 30 ranked player when it's all said and done, all while playing in one of the toughest HS districts and state classifications in the country, he's our highest profile QB recruit probably ever really.
Maurer never looked anything beyond mediocre. He was absolutely dissecting MSU before landing on his head ang Alabama didn’t have an answer for him either. This is so spot-on.
I had you pegged as an offensive player. I miss sometimes too. Lol. Either way, it’s been a pleasure and hope it continues.Yeah he's similar with me Haha. But he's pretty consistent with everybody in that way actually. I stalk his posts a little, so I know.
In High school I played everything.
College was mostly LB. Same thing professionally.
I also coached high school as a DC in North Carolina for a while. Over 10 years ago.
I stopped the coaching because my passion was turning into a job. Didn't sit well with me at the time.
I then thought scouting was a good happy medium, but it was way uncertain in regards to "compensation". So i just decided to be selfish and be a fan for the rest of my life.
A little strong but well said. I think BM should have been named the starter after the O&W game. He would have beaten both GaSt and BYU IMO. However, with the injuries, the way it played out is probably for the best, we may have lost 2 of the last 6 we won with JG coming in after being benched on a more permanent basis. Next year is going to be interesting. I just hope we don't lose all of them. Possibility that both BM and JG (unlikely) transfer and we have no significant on field experience coming back.I’m in full support of Pruitt but I’ll always say the same thing. CJP should have named him starter after the O&W game. However, as I said above, given the way things rolled out, maybe it's for the best. I think our D killed us the first two games also.....didn't put this in the post above. Was Maurer ready to play that position that early vs Georgia St and when should Pruitt had inserted him? Did JG not throw for well over 300 yards that game?
I too think Coach Pruitt may have mishandled BM but in a much different way. I would like to have seen how competitive our QB room would be with a 215 lb healthy RS FR Maurer with a full year to learn the playbook and get stronger physically and a clean slate based on the unknown, a JG coming off an underwhelming 8-5 season, a somewhat experienced Sophomore in JT who would have played backup all this year, Hill and blue chip recruit Bailey. I could easily see Maurer and Bailey possible coming out ahead of JG in that situation. As it has played out this year, because of how well JG finished the season and because he was the only QB producing in November all while playing with a broken hand, because of Maurer's history of injury, whether fair or not (probably cost him a month of weight lifting and conditioning), , and because of JTs lack of experience leads me to believe that JG will now most certainly be named the likely starter coming out of spring. Had Maurer been able to finish games I've really no idea what our record would be as every Fr other than Nix struggled to win games this year in the conference. Had Maurer stayed the starter and we finished 5-7 then without a doubt I believe JG would have transferred and the fans would be clamoring for Bailey from day 1. I think Pruitt got a bit lucky really with how it's all worked out. I also think he will have a very short leash on JG next year.
Yes! Between the 2 bad decisions that EVERYONE has admitted, he was, and I’ll say it louder, ABSOLUTELY DISSECTING MSU otherwise. You and your VERY little posse want people to lose sight of how well he actually played as a true freshman. He obviously played well enough to scare JG wouldn’t you say? You keep TRYING to convince people he was “bad”. Or is that lexkyvol? Hell..... I can’t remember because they all run together but he has been consistent every time he’s went out outside of 2 series vs KY. No one has ever said he didn’t make mistakes. But if I’m not mistaken, isn’t that the reason “musical qb” began? Because your boy was making the same mistakes, consistently? Two red zone picks is "absolutely dissecting" a team? I guess JG is a surgeon every game then.
Your hyperbole is out of control.
We lose more games this year and next if Maurer starts. Coaches and players agree.
A QB can make or break a WR at the HS level. There is some truth in what he is saying. You always have an excuse for Maurer's deficiencies and give him the credit for the success of those around him. As for the comparison I don't play if games, far too many factors involved and i believe that's horse hockey crediting Maurer as the reason those kids went on to get scholarships. That's a huge insult to each of them as THE PLAYER themselves are why they got that scholarship, not Maurer, not you, not me, not a recruiting service or a coach, the kid earned it himself no matter what level they ended up. Maybe they got better through working hard at the game, maybe they put the same amount of time in as BM their senior season, why does it matter when they got the offer. You called me a liar, even had some bunch of goons on here agreeing, howling for me to put up or shut up all while you knew there were 3 college to be WRs on Maurer's high school team, bush league move kiddo. AFWIW, I believe its Bailey as to why his high school is suddenly competing for championships as they might still be a good team without him but are a great high school team with him. I can give many more examples of bad high schools becoming good because of great QB play than I can of great QBs playing on losing high school teams. My high school team had never come close to winning a state title in football until a QB named Bo Wallace led us to a title his Sr year. I also think Florida is an extremely talented high school football state, top 5, Maurer's district ranks at the bottom in the state. I asked this once but how many state Champions have come from that district?
I’m not a “put it lightly” kind of guy so I apologize. And you’re right. He being named the starter would’ve helped in future games. He was clearly, at least to a few, the more effective qb coming out of the O&W game. Back then everyone’s argument was “it’s just a scrimmage” “he won’t do that vs the SEC”. UGA, MSU, Alabama all disagree now.A little strong but well said. I think BM should have been named the starter after the O&W game. He would have beaten both GaSt and BYU IMO. However, with the injuries, the way it played out is probably for the best, we may have lost 2 of the last 6 we won with JG coming in after being benched on a more permanent basis. Butchna clashes with everyone now and then. Like LV said, he is very steady and predictable in his responses. You always know where you stand with him.....and SJ also. LV and I but heads occasionally but I but heads with everyone.....Well like I said, people like you are why I joined VN. I can talk to you guys all day because you understand the Xs and Os and how much goes into certain positions and the differences of each one. I wish Butchna and I didn’t clash as much as we do because I really do respect him as well. For some reason though we cant have more than a few exchanges before we’re at each other. If you don’t mind my asking, what position did you play?
There is an agenda with Ktown that, if you are a long time lurker, you should already know about.Yes! Between the 2 bad decisions that EVERYONE has admitted, he was, and I’ll say it louder, ABSOLUTELY DISSECTING MSU otherwise.
