Trump just ramped up tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods. Here are all the products that will get hit.
There are a lot of unfinished/raw materials on this list. if you aren't seeing it anecdotally, give it time.
We just talking in circles and I'm totally cool with that. I'm on the same page as you, I understand and am in agreement to a major extent, but, some things will never be affected., which is what I've been trying to explain and thought it was explained pretty well.
Even with a tariff some things are not going to allow for any domestic purchasing to be competitive.
Paraffin wax: petroleum / oil based commodity, imported from China currently at around 20/MT (metric ton) is full sea container at around $1000/MT.
Buy more up to 40 MT price drops to $800/MT, which is 88,184.9 lbs. Cost per pound is $.036lb.
Domestic pricing on paraffin wax is over 1.00/lb up to 20 MT. If you know what you are doing you can find it for around $.0.60/lb domestically.
Some Paraffin wax usage:
- Candle-making
- Wax carving
- Coatings for waxed paper or cloth
- Food-grade paraffin wax:
- Shiny coating used in candy-making; although edible, it is nondigestible, passing right through the body without being broken down
- Coating for many kinds of hard cheese, like Edam cheese
- Sealant for jars, cans, and bottles
- Chewing gum additive
- Investment casting
- Anti-caking agent, moisture repellent, and dustbinding coatings for fertilizers
- Agent for preparation of specimens for histology
- Bullet lubricant – with other ingredients, such as olive oil and beeswax
- Phlegmatizing agent, commonly used to stabilise/desensitize high explosives such as RDX
- Crayons
- Solid propellant for hybrid rocket motors[22][23]
- Component of surfwax, used for grip on surfboards in surfing
- Component of glide wax, used on skis and snowboards
- Friction-reducer, for use on handrails and cement ledges, commonly used in skateboarding
- Ink. Used as the basis for solid ink different color blocks of wax for thermal printers. The wax is melted and then sprayed on the paper producing images with a shiny surface
- Microwax:[24] food additive, a glazing agent with E number E905
- Forensic investigations: the nitrate test uses paraffin wax to detect nitrates and nitrites on the hand of a shooting suspect
- Antiozonant agents: blends of paraffin and micro waxes are used in rubber compounds to prevent cracking of the rubber; the admixture of wax migrates to the surface of the product and forms a protective layer. The layer can also act as a release agent, helping the product separate from its mould.[25]
- Mechanical thermostats and actuators, as an expansion medium for activating such devices[17]
- "Potting" guitar pickups, which reduces microphonic feedback caused from the subtle movements of the pole pieces
- "Potting" of local oscillator coils to prevent microphonic frequency modulation in low end FM radios.
- Textile manufacturing processes, such as that used for Eisengarn thread.
- Wax baths for beauty and therapy purposes
- Thickening agent in many paintballs
- Moisturiser in toiletries and cosmetics such as Vaseline.
- Prevents oxidation on the surface of polished steel and iron[26]
- Phase change material for thermal energy storage
- Manufacture of boiled leather armor and books
- Skateboard wax
- Paraffin microactuator[28]
- Neutron radiation shielding
- Waterproofing agent for waxed cotton garments and commercially important in the early water proofing of ship sails.
- In Occupational and Physical therapies paraffin wax baths are used to warm and loosen connective tissue. They are mainly used in hand therapy.
Nothing domestically is close to cost comparative. Regardless of tariff put on it, this will not change, if anything, it will ensure lower costs to avoid loss of output and export from China.
Is this an "out lyer", yes, But, the amount of things it is used in are not. This product will never have an edge with American production. You see how many ranging fields and processes and products that are made here from it, and if they had to buy American, you see where that increase in costs differences would have affects on pricing and them rising.
No need to respond septic we're probably annoying some. But, leave it at this, I am in agreement with you and there are many things, especially finished goods, that are going to hurt the Americn consumer, and also, there will be many things the consumer will never see or know about that make it into so many products and they still won't be affected.
