Dooley, Butch, or Pruitt

Pruitt took over the team with the worst culture for sure. Talent probably a wash.

This and add an administration dumpster fire to go along with that.

Most of the talent Butch recruited either left or were under developed/injured. The best were drafted.

I thought we were playing F, Marry, Kill....in which case I’d say Dooley, Pruitt, Botch.

We know that Double D places a lot of import on hygiene, Pruitt would be a lot like my two ex-wives (capable of being a hell of a lot of fun at times - no sex), and do I even need to explain the kill part?

Pruitt got the complete dumpster fire from all aspects.

You know the linemen he got were tiny when he asked "where's the big linemen"?

We all know that it all starts up front.

VFL...GBO!!!

Pruitt, in some ways inherited the best situation. The fiasco that was the last coaching search served to clean out a lot of the garbage that has plagued the program for more than a decade. Football people are in control again. Pruitt wouldn’t have been hire and certainly would have no chance for success if that situation had not changed. Sorry Cleveland.

Think Jones took over the worst roster and it isn't really close.

Dooley took a pass on recruiting for his last season and most of the talent on offense in the skill positions left when he did.

Pruitt inherited guys like Bituli, Guarantano, Calloway, Darrell Taylor, and Jennings along with Smith.

Dooley had the most and did the least.

Yes, Dooley had an offensive line with four guys who played NFL.

And the 5th one had the most talent....Tiny.

You stately it exactly correct, Dooley had the most, did the least.

Butch inherited a hot mess.

Pruitt was in the middle on those two IMHO.

Talent wise, I think they each inherited similar messes. Butch inherited a stout OL but had zero depth and felt it as soon as that first group graduated. Dooley if I recall had nothing on the DL. Pruitt has juggled QB issues and a patchwork OL.

That said, Pruitt inherited the worst program CULTURE of the three of them. He’s finally scrubbing away the filth.

Lane inherited a team that lost to Wyoming. It also had two walk ons starting on the Oline and a walk on middle linebacker.
That game was a fluke. Fulmer had been fired days earlier and the team didn’t show up. It’s like saying the 1997 team had no talent because Peyton and co lost to a terrible Memphis team in 1996.

We beat Northern Illinois 13-9 that year also. I dont think you can compare the 08 vols to the 97 team. Everyone thinks Phillip left the cupboard so stocked. If that was the case we wouldn't have had three walkons as starters the very next year.

We had the talent on that team. The cupboard was hardly bare considering that on top of that Lane had just hauled in a Top 10 recruiting class as well. Our classes had been wildly inconsistent under Fulmer the prior four years, but 2 of them were ranked in the top 5.

Are we talking about what people inherited or what they brought in? I dont care what the recruiting rankings said either. Being a Vol fan i think has taught us all pretty well that dont really mean ****.

Of our 3 most recent head coaches, which one inherited the least amount of talent in terms of scholarship players, and which one inherited the most amount of talent?
I would argue Pruitt inherited more natural talent, but butch inherited more developed talent. That 2013 offensive line was nasty.

Right. Neither Butch nor Pruitt inherited a RB any bear as good as Hardesty. Kiffin inherited a head case QB who had an NFL arm that ended up drafted. Butch inherited Worley. Dooley got Matt Simms and had to hold on to Bray. Kiffin inherited a good group of WRs with D. Moore and G. Jones. Dooley recruited his WRs. Jones had a true freshman as his best receiver.

And neither Jones nor Dooley inherited a player in the same vicinity of talent as Berry.
