Things I'm mad about today

I'll never buy a house in a subdivision that has an HOA that enforces rules like this. It's just pressure toward mass conformity, which is pretty much the last thing that this world needs.

If you're within an area with an HOA, you should get a copy of the rules that run the HOA, as well as the covenants. Find out how the rules can get voted (or forced in), and what it takes to block or overturn them.
 
My young next door neighbors, mid thirties, used to have parties in their garage frequently with a lot of people and they were always fun. They decided to move to a more uppity neighborhood, Collierville, and when they tried to have a garage party the HOA immediately shut it down and told them their garage door could only be open for thirty minutes at a time. Lulz!

Here's some stuff.
Ordered a Tuff Shed for my yard equiment, 10x 16 ft. So I got the feedback from the HOA to use concrete piers or pour a foundation. I offered an alternate version... NO, use concrete... he mentioned using parking curbs that you see at the mall. Well, I checked on those, they come in at 270 lbs each. Not for a one man crew to handle. So, I visited a concrete pre-cast facility and toured the grounds. I found some lentils (6"wide, by 2.5" thick and 4 feet long), these weighed <100 lbs. And had rebar inside.

Bought up what they had and used several 18"x18" pavers to fill in the foundation area that the shed skids will sit on. I sent a photo of my foundation to the HOA... will not read the response if it comes. As the shed is sitting on a trailer in the driveway, and tomorrow AM they will install it. THEN I will read any reply from the HOA.

I should be good to go... but my neighbor told me today that the pres of HOA is an azzhat and therefore I expect some sheit from him... but I won't take any, as I checked, and I have all the sheit I need right now.

Foundation... shed has steel skids on 24" centers, will sit on the raised concrete. Should distribute the load fine.

Yeah, the nerve of those people in that R100 neighborhood getting all uppity over the smell from blue crab molting tanks erected in the back yard, the truck traffic for soft shell crab deliveries to restaurants, and the impact of periodic drainage into the county storm water management system.
 
My sister used to live in an HOA neighborhood. They did a TON of landscaping, spent thousands of dollars and months of work. HOA complained that their rules say any landscaping has to be professionally done.
My brother in law is the lead guy for one of the biggest landscaping companies in the area. HOA backed off when he showed them his credentials. Then they gave them crap over his work truck being parked in the driveway because it had the company name on it. So he started taking the magnetic sign off every evening. So then they griped that it had to be in the garage. I will never purchase an HOA associated property.

HOAs present a PITA to those outside of them as well. Should any harm come to you from an HOA common area, good luck in obtaining recovery. Civil action will require the presence of certain officers in court to proceed. Good luck getting them all in place for even a day. Expect continuances ad infinitum.
 
I'll admit that there are a few potentially useful HOA rules (thanks for the reminder of Prince Mongo, lol), but the overwhelming majority of them are just prissy and pissy attempts to make everyone look alike.

My former in-laws used to live in a fancy subdivision in Bergen County NJ, and there was a rule/ ordinance/ something that you couldn't play basketball outside lest the noise of the bouncing ball distress the neighbors. OK, fine, send your kids to the basement to play video games all day. smh
 
I hate I have to tell my staff, that I’m having to cut their hours, this close to the holidays. Owners did say they are taking some of the load off of me, just to make them feel better about cutting hours. This sucks! My staff works so hard and I feel helpless. 😞

Is this a temporary thing, so that the owners can make their numbers before the end of the year, or ongoing?

You're right, it's a miserable thing that they (NOT you) are doing to their staff. No doubt the ultimate owners are getting a very nice ROI. Meanwhile, it's bound to affect the residents' experience, no matter how hard you work to avoid this.

This is my fear, which I normally keep under control, about our moms' AL facility: it's part of a for-profit chain. Sure, some for-profits are truly for-patients/residents, but most are ROI-driven. We're hoping that ours is one of the good guys, or mostly so.

Hang in there, I know your staff will understand that this wasn't your idea.

The sucky part, I have to wait until after Saturday to tell them. I’ve been through it many times before and timing is everything to the owners, wink, wink. It’s always just a few months of temporary. Because of all this, I will need to pick up at least 2 shifts a week on me. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind that part. It’s the taking away from them and timing that bothers me. I do have an alternative plan in the works, in my mind, that I’m going to propose to them next week.

Unfortunately, for profit facilities do this often when the revenue doesn’t suit them. As I’m sure you do, keep an eye open to staffing changes. The staff will be the first to tip you off.
