The Official #20 Tennessee vs. Alabama State Game Thread, 7:00 PM ET, SEC Network+

Very easy win tonight and congratulations to Bowden and Turner on joining the 1,000 point club.

Good to see Pember get some minutes tonight as UT will have to count on him for inside depth since Kent has apparently left the basketball program.

So, if I'm paying TDS for 100 Mbs and Speedtest has me around 35, do I have a legit reason to complain to them?

someone may have already replied, but if not.....they’re likely selling you “up to” 100 Mbps. Also, they would likely claim you have multiple devices pulling your speed capabilities down on the device you used to run the speed test. Then they’ll send you a new modem.

This wasn't a typical game. The refs must have had an early dinner reservation or a flight to catch. They didn't want to call anything early. I saw several obvious traveling violations slide. Certainly none of the foul every possession nonsense either. Unfortunately they won't be able to call most games like that or else the players will yank off each other's shoes and beat each other over the head with them. Long story short... I'm not getting too excited that Fulk avoided foul trouble. I'll wait and see what happens versus a competent opponent with Doug Shows blowing his whistle. BTW, is TV Teddy still active?

Certainly at some point (probably several points) Fulk will get into foul trouble. However he did play 30 minutes in the Washington game and came away with only 3 fouls.

Washington is as big and as physical as anyone Tennessee will see all year......but I’m not saying he could do that game in and game out.

So far so good though.

Also remember there has been a shift in whistling when the O player initiates the contact.........last year would have been bad for Tennessee.......this year probably good for Tennessee. I guess we will see how much if any this changes.

Unfortunately officials aren't consistent. I remember a bunch of games last year when each half was called totally differently. They also changed their philosophy during the course of the season.

A couple of years ago there was supposed to be a change to a more finesse game with freedom of movement for the offense. But they just allowed the offense to bang and called fouls on defenses if they pushed back or even put 2 hands on the offense.

I think that Barnes has recruited to the philosophy that the game was moving away from physicality and toward finesse. If officials don't follow through and be consistent all year, we're screwed (except for JJJ and Pons).

Gaines is listed at 6'7" 178 lbs. He's a toothpick out there. He's not going to contribute much to SEC play until that changes. Pember's a little better but he could stand to bulk up some more too. They did say last night that Pember had put on 20 lbs since May

Both will gain weight over the next couple of years. Gains and Pembers length will bother alot of folks this year. Sure they are going to get pushed around alot but both are active and long.
