Agree. And the catchers across the league are tough to get excited about as a whole. Several guys on the back end of their careers. The young ones who play good defense, don’t bat. The young ones that can bat, don’t play defense. I think JT Realmuto and Grandal are good (especially JT) but it’s feels like a lot of the salivating over them was because they were the only ones available that are worth a damn. I definitely feel that way about Grandal.I hate the idea of spending big money on a catcher. It's great if you can get some pop out of the position, but those guys get banged up a ton.
Grandal > fwar than Donaldson at a more premium position and for less $Agree. And the catchers across the league are tough to get excited about as a whole. That’s true. The numbers are definitely not in my favor on this one. The red flag with Grandal to me is getting benched in the postseason 2 years ago against us. I wouldn’t be against the signing by any means. But if AA puts money elsewhere besides C at this point in time, I would not hold it against him.Grandal > fwar than Donaldson at a more premium position and for less $
I would disagree.I don't get why there's no in between here. I'm not saying don't upgrade the position; just that I think there are better ways to spend $20 million/yr.
I would disagree.
He’s a significantly better player than Ozuna. I’d argue he’s better than Donaldson and Donaldson will sign for more.
If they want to strike a trade and bring on some payroll dollars that way, then maybe. AA hasn’t been very adept at handling this farm system so far so I’m not putting much stock in that outcome at this moment.
Given the other options, I’d say there isn’t a better way to spend $20M
