Penn state is a tough team, tougher than anyone Clemson has played. No way you can argue Clemson schedule has been harder than Minnesota. They're in based on preseason ranking, absolutely no other reason.

So here's 3 undefeated teams.

Team A: combined opponent record 44-48
Team B: combined opponent record 43-41
Team C: combined opponent record 34-48

For those who prayed a a week and a half ago for my wife's grandfather, thank you! He is doing well. Had a quad-bypass heart surgery and removed a blood clot from his heart. He is now in rehab for both that and his left shoulder which he had just had replaced. Dude is a walking new man except for his right shoulder (which he will probably have replaced as well). #bionicman

UGA's defense will likely do the same though to Auburn's offense. Nix has not held up well at all against good defenses, and UGA is right there with Auburn as far as easily the 2 best defenses in the SEC. I think UGA's balance on offense gives the dawgs the advantage.
I agree, but 2 key factors...Auburn had a bye week and it’s at Auburn. I think that gives the edge to Auburn. They will probably put in some wrinkles Georgia hasn’t seen yet.

The way thatAu handled LSu for most of the game was telling. Georgia will definitely find some tough sledding on the plains Saturday.

You should be rewarded for losing the only big time game you played? Don't get me wrong, I think all conferences champions should get in, or why bother with it. But the way they are doing it is who have you beaten, and how have you lost. If AL were to have played through the SEC West with only 1 loss by a few points to the SEC championship plus having beaten the team Oregon lost to with them both having 1 loss....that should fit the way they have been chosing....Unfortunately. Hopefully they pick differently.
you can’t help who’s good and not in your conference so as a P5 so going out of your way and scheduling a big opponent should basically be rewarded win or loss (unless you get drubbed by 30). If Oregon wins out, beats a very good Utah team in pac 12 champ and only loss to auburn neutral site in a very close game. I think that should trump bama not winning a conference or even playing for a conference and getting dominated by LSU at home.

I do think bama is better than Oregon but i think Oregon deserves that sport more than bama. (If it plays out like that and assuming lsu, Clemson, and ohio state are the other 3 and are un beaten.

As much as i like Minnesota and fleck they won’t get through that schedule and Ohio state. I wish they would be it’s not happening

Yeah, but they are "trying to get the 4 best teams" not who deserves to go because of winning their conference is what everyone keeps saying. If AL wins the rest of their games and defeats Auburn to which Oregon lost to plus the only loss is by 5 points to the team that wins the SEC, that will probably win the eye test. That is what I don't like. It always ends up an eye test instead of champions.

Keon Johnson and Jaden Springer are officially Vols. Boom

And the Oregon team you were arguing for would have lost to that 8-4 Auburn team. How would it make sense for Oregon to jump Bama in that scenario?[/QUOT

Many team's have hiccups 1st game. Rattling off 12 in a row after first game loss against a good Auburn team will get Oregon in I believe.
Might be biased because I really want Ala on the outside looking in but a 12 game winning streak should get them in if it happens..jmo

and the counter to that is Bama's only loss is a 5 pointer to the #1 team in the country that was a shootout...especially if Bama goes out and beats Auburn....especially if they beat them badly.

Oregon and/or Utah needs Auburn to wreck stuff for GA and Bama.

Basically...LSU going undefeated puts a 1 loss Bama team at the top of the pile for that 4th spot.

Clemson, LSU, Ohio State/Minnesota going undefeated secures them in the top 3. OU, Oregon, Bama all sitting at 1 loss will be quite the debate since the other two will be champions of weaker Power 5 conferences.

You're right I think. Auburn losing to both GA & Bama, especially badly will basically erase the Pac-12 from the CFP I think.

i go back and forth. i think championships should matter. cause i think the regular season, winning your division and/or conf should matter.

but it's hard for me to look at a 1 loss Bama against OR, UT, OU, PSU etc....and definitively say that any of them are actually "better" than Bama.

the problem, imo, is the subjectivity used to determine this. as we've seen in this discussion, there's a lot of differing opinions and metrics that can be used to support or deflect.

i still say they should just use the BCS model and just play the top 4 teams........

I mean, I'm annoyed. I wanted to see OU beat the breaks off Bama and Hurts to hoist a title in Saban's face.

But the chances of that are slim to none now. Both teams won't be in the CFP, not with Clemson having a cake walk and with LSU basically building a ridiculous resume that even with a loss and no conference title you can't deny them.

I am in favor of expansion to either a 6 or preferably an 8 team playoff. Have your conference champs and then at-large or wildcard team/teams. And start the freakin playoffs at max 2 weeks after conference championship games. I get so frustrated at the 5 or 6 week lapse in between the season and waiting so long for the playoff games.
