If he can turn down the ego I think he could be a successful head coach. He’s a fantastic recruiter and hype man. He reminds me a lot of a mix between Bruce Pearl and Brian Kelly (without the success of those two, obviously.)

He was soooooooo close to breaking the seal here but his ego got in the way somewhere in the offseason after the 2015 season. The power trip got to him the way it did Brian Kelly early in his tenure at ND. If he can take the same advice Kelly has, and turn that down, he can be successful.

I think he’s fundamentally unable to handle pressure. Dobbs and some elite playmakers gave him his signature wins once the pressure ramped up at TN.

He might actually do well at a P5 job with low expectations because he could live in that underdog role forever.

This.
It showed so clearly when we were brow-beating OU and he got visibly afraid and tried to run the clock out for an entire half.

Change of topic....heard yesterday rhat CFP will be 8 teams in next 3-4 years max...before new tv contact. Probably each P5 will get automatic qualifier.
Of course they are going to do that: and they will rig the P5 games to advance a team in a large media market and that couldn't make the 4. That's how it works.

For sure. To me he’s probably best suited as the head coach for the second biggest program in the state. Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Indiana and Ohio are some programs that come to mind.

He’s a fine coach and a good recruiter. He’s just a terrible person.

Fine coach? Dude ran same swing pass to Kamara 100x a game.....

None of that matters tho. If anything it’s the other way around. The staff has to kiss that coaches ass regardless Bc they want him to let them in with their players when they have one good enough to recruit. That’s just how recruiting works. You don’t want the coaches to shut you out like they did some of our past assistants

Not what I’m saying at all. They just won’t be able to trust his feedback on what’s going on. They will not be holding a spot for a silent guy for three months from that school. Not because the coach isn’t trustworthy but because the player even played the coach.

Not if only, he seriously did it 5-8 times a game it seemed like which sounds nice because Kamara was AWESOME, one of the best talents to wear orange, but if you run the same play with the same formation and motion over and over it's not going to be effective

You could almost read it on him throughout the course of a big game that he couldn't handle it. The Oklahoma and Florida games in 2015 were case in point. He was tighter than Maggie's britches. Don't have enough hair on his balls to make it at this level.

and yet was the only coach to beat Florida in years and beat UGA twice. Blah blah it's in the past let it go.

I remember wondering if Kamara would EVER get on the damn field. People in here calling for him in vain for a while.

Agreed. He actually looked calmer in 2016 and I wonder if it’s because he had resigned himself to inevitably being fired. It was like once he had the team to compete, he realized he didn’t belong.

Butch probably does get Brazilian Waxes

What's everyones opinion of using TGNS (Carlos Younger, Big Will, and Chris Smith) to help elevate a players exposure.

Glad to see the first 5 hours of the day were spent arguing over what people would do if they basically won the lottery...thanks Butch.
