Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

Dude, my high school football coach showed up at my dad's funeral 26 years after I graduated. I said Potter is not to blame per se BUT as a coach, he is teaching life lessons and one of those would be how to handle your recruitment and not lie to coaches. You telling someone to grow up shows you need to do so. Stick to the facts. Coaches are mentors and Coach Potter feels the same way and is not happy with how Hardy handle things. He's a kid but we are trying to teach kids how to become men. If you don't think our staff will be cautious with kids at McCallie in the future, you are out of your ever loving mind. The kid handled this as bad as a kid could and it is a reflection on him. It's not that he choose Auburn. It is how he handled the situation in choosing Auburn. I know kids who are good friends with Jay. He's a good kid who made a few mistakes. His coach has told him so but it will affect the trust between this staff and kids who play at McCallie in the future. Don't know what in the hell my post had to do with bus driver's and lunch ladies. They don't influence football players like the head coach of the football teams do. Unless the lunch lady is in her 20's and is hot as heck.

I think AtlantaVol's post from last night in the Hardy thread should at least be considered in deference to the kid in question.

Wow been quite the day i didn’t even watch the announcement as it was a forgone conclusion to everyone on UT side that he was a vol. Everyone got sideswiped here and from all the info that I have gotten it appears the father is the one who has made this decision and without involving others who were involved previously. Every single person that was involved from his side as of late yesterday said vol. no need to go into specifics but I believe something happened very late or early this am and we were not given a fair shake if that makes sense. Now all that being said....In my heart I think this one gets flipped once all the dust settles....

What's Jay supposed to do when we teach him to honor his father and mother? I think we can say the same thing about Rakim. I'm under the impression that Rakim's mother made the decision on LSU. I think it's just a tough situation for some of these kids. jmo.

It was UAB.i wouldn’t base our pass defense solely on that game.

Had 3 against MSU, 2 against Florida, 1 against Bama....

Our pass defense has been solid. We've feasted on bad teams and somewhat been exposed by good/great passing teams.

Georgia State 45.8% 139 yards
UTC 34.6% 76 yards 4 INTs
MSU 52.4% 146 yards 3 INTs
UAB 46.7% 174 yards 3 INTs

USC had a ton of yards, but also threw the ball 51 times, nearly 20 more attempts than the next highest opponent (Florida at 34). We're for sure better at defending the run than the pass, but you can also contribute our 3 worse pass defense games to Florida, Georgia, and USC (at least in yardage). No team has thrown for more than 2 TDs on us in a single game.

My guess is that Butch Jones thinks he's a front runner for the Kentucky Job.

I would love this. Given our trajectory I feel like we could beat the snot out of his team on a yearly basis.

Normally I wouldn't care, but he is on my most hated list since posting the cigar pictures last year after the Bama game.
"MarcoVol, post: 17478266, member: 78002"]
Lol at thinking Bailey has a problem with how Pruitt handles decisions, QB or otherwise. You do know he committed to UT when we didn’t even have an OC, right? Some of y’all act like Pruitt is playing musical chairs at QB by choice. If JG didn’t force his hand, we would’ve had 1 starter all year. Pruitt is just trying to figure out how to win each game.[/QUOTE/]

Just another perspective to maybe think about lol didn’t mean to offend Harrison.Everyone but you apparently has questioned his way of handling this situation and you’re silly to think by him “playing musical chairs” has won us ball games when last week defense won against UAB and Shrout won against SC.JG played with a ******* splint there is no way in hell Shrout is that bad to wear a player has to risk further injury just give us a slight chance of winning.lol @MarcoVol

Where were we ranked nationally on defense before the UAB game?...my point still stands.

He didn’t start this musical chairs QB by choice.

- JG needed to be benched. He was benched.
- Maurer was clear cut starter. Couldn’t stay on the field.

I’m not saying JG should def play over JTS. I have no idea. I don’t get to see them practice. Even if I did, I don’t sit in the QB room or coaches meetings so I don’t know what the staff is considering when making evaluations on who plays.

And I never said QBs is why we’re winning games.

He will be a 5-7 coach at UK and 7-5/8-4 at MSU. Fired within 4-5 years.
If he can turn down the ego I think he could be a successful head coach. He’s a fantastic recruiter and hype man. He reminds me a lot of a mix between Bruce Pearl and Brian Kelly (without the success of those two, obviously.)

He was soooooooo close to breaking the seal here but his ego got in the way somewhere in the offseason after the 2015 season. The power trip got to him the way it did Brian Kelly early in his tenure at ND. If he can take the same advice Kelly has, and turn that down, he can be successful.

So it’s not considered musical chairs still playing JG with a splint?..Shrout with two hands is better than JG with one so that alone puts him ahead.you alluded to the fact that this QB rotation situation is considered “Figuring out how to win ball games” and it isn’t.its Entirely unusual to play 3 QBs if you include JJ,especially only giving one drive to a particular QB.makes zero sense
