Basilio’s recruiting guru. He hears things. ;)

It's weird, cause he's not wrong...but he's also not saying anything that's not been said.

I feel like Rocker, Rumph, and Sherrer are all pretty good at developing talent. And once their developed guys are getting drafted and UT is winning they'll look a lot better as recruiters, because they won't have to "pound the pavement" as hard to get kids here.

Not even gonna disagree with "X" (tho I don't know if he's correct on the who, maybe?)
I just don't think it's a rarity like his post seems to suggest. When you look at all the other teams, the majority of staffs have a handful that are the true recruiting gurus then it falls off. All of our guys had jobs before TN.

Would like to up the % of "great" guys but don't think we're very different than any staff that isn't considered elite.

Well, then, aren't we lucky America still has 1% who have character and would rather work than weasel their way to a handout.
I know a lot of people who have integrity, but there are a lot of pathetic scumbags out there too who have zero clue what integrity even is. They mock it and anybody who believes in it...sad world.

How bout we just stop paying coaches even when they fail instead of blaming coaches for taking the benefits of those terrible contracts?

I’m always more inclined to blame admin instead of labor
Part of the issue is "good faith", IMO. Both sides want the CYA to be there but sometimes you can't work around it.

I ll take these 2 by comparison Jones and Taggart.

Jones got 5 years to prove he could get it done here. He made some headway in years 3 and 4 before it started imploding late in year 4, and was a complete dumpster fire in year 5. I think most people in and around the situation could see it coming. He wasn't wrongfully terminated in anyway. He had ample time and resources to get good here and stay that way. He wasn't good enough to pull that off.

Taggart walked into a job where the last guy had been successful but left the place a wreck on the way out. He gets less than 2 years. Im not going to argue that he was wrongfully terminated because things are definitely not well there, but I don't think some are putting enough weight into the health of the program when he took it over either. In short, if FSU thought that was a mistake that they are not going to let play out, that's fine. Pay your stupid tax and move on.

On a side note. FSU being on the hook for 17 mil to Taggart for them, and 3 more (+/-) for Oregon and S. FL is nuts.

I havent done the math but that sounds to be more than UT spent on Fulmer, Dooley and Jones combined. For a guy that was .500 for his career with 1 real good season at South Florida.

I wouldn’t consider being paid the remaining of a contract that you earned and both sides agreed to a “handout”.

In order to earn all that money you would need to fulfill the entirety of that contract as well as doing it to the employers standards. He did neither so I don’t feel he deserves all that money, nor has he EARNED it at all.

I mean...Butch does have a job.

I think our bitter fan-base wants to paint him as being the party not willing to take the bigger gig...when it really might not be the case. He's obviously taken a hit though, with how things blew up here, so he's likely not a candidate at the top of many list.

I'm sure Maryland buzz was a friend trying to help a friend out. And it's odd that it would be made public he "withdrew his name" for the Rutgers job, I'll be honest I can't remember any candidate ever doing that before...usually it's just a denying it or not commenting.

If we can get a few turnovers early vs Ky, we can change their run heavy approach and dominate the game. Forcing turnovers have been lacking for years, but hopefully things are changing on defense. We are not reacting all the time and dictating the game. GBO.

Kentucky had just 8 passes against Missouri...8 attempts for 63 yards. They did however run for 297 yards...
Kentucky had just 16 passes against Georgia, only 2 completions for 17 yards. Held to 160 yards on the ground...slug fest game, Georgia went for 235 on the ground and Fromm just had 12 attempts and 35 yards.
Kentucky had 12 attempts and 88 yards passing against Arkansas. Went for 330 yards on the ground! (Gave up 183 yards on the ground to Arkansas)

It's pretty obvious that to beat Kentucky you simply have to slow down their running game, since it's all they are doing. They also aren't a strong defense and give up a ton of yards, especially on the ground.

I mean Georgia is a great team running the ball...but that's a lot of yards to Arkansas who isn't a good team. In short this game for us to win will need to play out similar to the MSU game, only instead of stopping Hill it'll be Bowden we gotta stop. Then we simply need to be able to move the ball on them and not turn it over. They look like a good passing defense, but they aren't. Against Missouri & Georgia the weather really helped keep those games as ground battles.

Florida & Eastern Michigan both went for over 300 yards in the air. They turn it over a lot more than they take it away too, so can't beat ourselves. If we're stopping their run & moving the ball ourselves eventually something will break open if we don't give them the ball.

If they choose to run, I welcome that.By the way Miss.St says Hello! 👋🏽 Our Run defense is better than our pass defense.Stoops Last year had better everything just about and we still beat them because his only gameplan was trying running it down our throats.i am more worried about our OL and QB play honestly.

Going to have to create turnovers if we want to win

On the other hand we have 99% of the people who say the deal is a deal and I'm not going to let you screw me out of the terms that were set up in the contract. To the 1% that wouldn't do that I say you are stooooopid!!!!

You’re blaming a high school and a high school coach for the kids decision and the way he went about it. You want to blame his lunch lady too? Or what about his bus driver? A kid didn’t pick to play at UT doesn’t mean he’s a bad kid or that his coach did anything wrong. Grow up lol

mcallie high school or that coach doesn’t need anything from UTs staff lol. If a player is good enough he will get recruited. Hardy situation has no impact on it like that.

Dude, my high school football coach showed up at my dad's funeral 26 years after I graduated. I said Potter is not to blame per se BUT as a coach, he is teaching life lessons and one of those would be how to handle your recruitment and not lie to coaches. You telling someone to grow up shows you need to do so. Stick to the facts. Coaches are mentors and Coach Potter feels the same way and is not happy with how Hardy handle things. He's a kid but we are trying to teach kids how to become men. If you don't think our staff will be cautious with kids at McCallie in the future, you are out of your ever loving mind. The kid handled this as bad as a kid could and it is a reflection on him. It's not that he choose Auburn. It is how he handled the situation in choosing Auburn. I know kids who are good friends with Jay. He's a good kid who made a few mistakes. His coach has told him so but it will affect the trust between this staff and kids who play at McCallie in the future. Don't know what in the hell my post had to do with bus driver's and lunch ladies. They don't influence football players like the head coach of the football teams do. Unless the lunch lady is in her 20's and is hot as heck.

On recruiting and losing Ojulari/Hardy/etc.-

To me it’s as simple as the product we have to offer. It’s not the coaches. We have a bad product. We have a losing record. We aren’t sexy. We don’t put kids into the NFL. We’re boring.

We’ll continue to lose some kids until these things change. And I believe they are starting to change....slowly.
