Recruiting a worry

recruiting is weak, even with the bad start very disappointed. Wiffed on most our big names really, butch jones staff recruited better. Way better...no way we break top 15. I don’t even see us chasing the 5 star talent this year.
Yeah numbers aren’t everything but we are not recruiting well at all right now. We may be better next year but prob dip again. Pruitt needs results next year or may get worse. I hope to be proven wrong and they cobble together a respectable sec class. Just sucks to be 9 or 10th in sec
What matters most is what we do with this season. Mainly because going to a bowl game will win us more recruits. So, I won’t discuss recruiting until the season is done or as good as done.

Class lacks big time RB, pass rusher, and wr. Need some lb's but last years class shored up the OL. This class addresses the DL very well and adds some OL that can redshirt. Not to mention a stud QB. These are the building blocks. Line of scrimmage and an elite QB. Get that and you win some games and the rest falls in place. Hope to add a few more nice pieces but this is a solid class that keeps us trending up. People like OP want us to out recruit Bama in 2yrs after the last 10yr shat show... not going to happen immediately across the board, but they have gotten some nice pieces (too'o too'o, crouch, wanya, darnell, etc). That's how it is done and why it is called a rebuild.

This is what im interested to see. With the transfer portal and Tennessee having so few upperclassmen it seems like Pruitt might be able to pick up some talent there after the season ends and coaches get fired or take new jobs.

He has so far. Gibbs, Solomon, Hill. If he could add 1 Gibbs/Solomon type per year in transfers, which I don't expect, then it's an extra 5* added to each class.

OP, you’re not 100% wrong. This is just poorly timed. For one thing Pruitt has just come off his signature win. If we’d have lost by 2 scores Saturday u wouldn’t get near the backlash. Also, two pretty highly ranked guys in Hardy and Baron seem ready to pull the trigger. If we hold on to who we have, get Hardy and Baron and Thomas and maybe a guy like Oxendine, we’d be much closer to where we need to be. With a Washington or Jarrett we’d be top 8-10. Cause you’re right, 20th overall won’t cut it. And piece of future advice, if you go against the grain here, you will get obliterated.

No the problem is a bunch of you guys are looking for problems in this staff, when recruiting has never been an issue with these guys. There is literally NO reason to doubt this/them on the recruiting trail, you would think what they were able to pull off last year would actually encourage people. If nothing else these guys know talent and how to get it, at least wait until nsd with these threads...

You don't have to look too far to find problems with this staff. However, they just lost a big commitment to LSU. So to say there's no doubt is not exactly true. I'm hoping like hell he puts together an amazing class. Not five and four stars but kids who genuinely want to be at Tennessee and want to compete. I am cautiously optimistic.

Losing a guy whose brother is literally begging him to decommit from the team every day is not the fault of this staff, these guys are some of the highest rated recruiters before they came here, and had a quality class last year despite the circumstances. Complaining about our recruiting with this information, before NSD is just asinine.

Being one who does not want to be;
Happy even when there is reason to be;
I recommend you set aside the Power "T"
And give the famed, the renowned violin soloist;
Itzhak Perlman who played the theme for Schindler’s List.
Just four minutes and sixteen seconds of your time.
In a barren room far from the rest of us with your whine.

Heard this before, but thanks for the reminder. NICE way to begin Game Day. GBO

We lost two 4*, that are connected to Harrison Bailey. I fear Bailey may follow them to LSU. Their Heisman Candidate is a senior, and the QB job will be wide open, with a much more proven supporting cast, on both sides of the ball. Legitimate fears. But, we did go after them, and they did commit, only to de-commit.

Not sure if you mean Jarrett of Gilbert as the other 4*, but we never "had" either of them.

Tbh I'm not sure how close HB and those guys are. I feel like the kid still ends up at Tennessee.

Pruitt was a top rated recruiter when he was at Bama. This point was really driven home when he left and their recruiting tanked. I don’t think Bama has been close to the top 20 in recruiting since Pruitt left.

I hope you are right.
I am pretty sure one of the brothers committed to UT, a while back. But his brother has pulled him away, to LSU.

HUH? Aren't they always top 1-4 every year?

Were fairly young at a lot of positions so not imperative that this class be any better than maybe a top 20. WR is a place where we could use some help. DL also needed to get a couple top players. OL is in position to be solid for at least two years to come. Same for QB and TE probably has to many recruits. Linebacker doesn't lose that much or the secondary and we have plenty of players and depth at both positions that just need to mature as players. Runningback needs a power back to go with Grey for next season. Overall the team for next season looks better than this team except at WR and depending on how this class eventually turns out we really need a huge class that year.

Of course we need all the juniors to come back losing a lot of them especially at runningback would be painful.

I'm also thinking that Bama and UGA may be getting top recruits, but sadly for them, not all will get to play as much as they would like. We can use them to develop talent for us!

Good one! I almost missed the invisible blue font.
