Do we have a five way quarterback controversy brewing next year?

Hes gone. He graduates in December.
Maurer and Bailey will battle it out next year. Hill to back up those 2. Shrout may look elsewhere too. All JMO of course.
Shrout may not be going anywhere and actually could be # 1 next year if the SC game is indicative of what he can do every week.

Serisouly doubt it.

I don't take anything away from his performance against USCe, but that was only about a half a game. We'll see if he can sustain it. I think he'll keep getting chances with injuries to both JG and Maurer.

Why would he throw all of that away? I just don't see it. If he doesn't play much down the stretch then I could understand but I've got a feeling he's going to play a bunch these next 4 games. I think Maurer is the one that will ride his success to another power5 program if HB is as good as advertised as Maurer would have the most to lose if Bailey is the better QB. I think JT rides it out. JG, who knows. It's interesting that's for sure.

We'll see, I've never been a fan of "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence" type mentality so I hope he sticks it out. He's earned his stripes regardless of his production.
I didn’t believe Jalen Hurts would grad transfer...especially after that SEC Championship game cemented him as a Bama legend. So I’m prepared to be wrong. We never know what’s in their head, but he’s already graduated and will have put 4 years blood and sweat into this program. Owes nothing to anyone but himself. It’s not always about the grass being greener...just different.

What's he throwing away? It's unlikely he makes it at the next level. He either has his degree or will in a couple of months. Hes not going to be our answer long term. Maurer has shown enough flashes to know you can win with him if he stays healthy. I'm not ready to crown Shrout just yet. I think we need to see more of him to get a better feel.

Once again, all JMO. I think JG moves on after the year, and I think the battle for the 1 spot will ultimately be between HB and Maurer.

In my opinion Shrout isn't leaving as long as he's dating Ally. Ally may be one of the best catchers in softball. She was injured last year as a freshman, torn ACL and a wrist injury but is expected back. Her sister was also a Vol so I feel safe in saying she stays all 4 years. That gives her 3 remaining to play.

I also hope he stays even if he's not the starter or dating Ally. He has talent and will be around other talented quarterbacks that can only make him better. You must have depth in the SEC as we all know to be true.

Ok - I’ll check back with you after the UAB game.

Hurts was 2nd string when he graduated and transferred, JG may not be 2nd string if he finishes the year out as our starter. If he's 2nd string I think he would transfer but until then I just don't see it.

Feel free to. If I'm wrong it won't be the first time and it won't be the last either.

But I don't think a solid performance by Shrout against UAB is going to be indicative of him being our starter next year either.

All JMO. Making sure I get that in there.

JMO also. I just have a gut feeling about JT long-term. I also have an interest in Elijah Simmons at DT but I’m unsure if his progress this year because I have not heard his name mentioned. When Williams signed I thought he may be a dark house candidate as a special player at UT.

Something will have to change for him to stay, instead of something has to change for him to leave.

I think the decision was made early this year.

I think Simmons is gonna be a good player for us down the road. Another year in the weight room is only gonna help. Hes got great footwork for a big man.

Not sure what's up with Williams. Hoping hes just had troubles adjusting to the SEC and will be able to contribute next year.

Lol. Not a chance he starts over Maurer as a true freshman if Maurer is healthy. You guys are putting way, way too much stock into Bailey. He’ll very likely redshirt next year imho.
He may not start but I don't think he redshirts. Nowadays you just don't see highly touted guys redshirt at the QB position anymore. I'm sure that's part of the recruiting angle as well.

You’d already stated that you didn’t think playing time would factor into his decision...that’s to what I was responding. He seizes the job clearly and definitively with a bum hand and talented competition? Then all bets are off. We’re back to opinions and predictions and mine is he won’t.

I think JG transfers or gives up football and moves on with life. They will try to redshirt HB if possible. BM and JT battle for starting and relief when the other gets hurt. Seems you needs 2 QBs good enough to start these days. I thought JT threw a nice deep ball. I know it was only Carolina but he looked pretty poised starting his 1st game as a RS FR.
