He's always said recruiting is about relationships. So is coaching or managing people in general. Getting the most out of your people week to week is every manager's job. CJP knows how to motivate. When to give a guy a pat on the butt and when to give them a kick in the a$$. Any good coach will tell a kid that when he quits coaching him is when he's given up on him.

And he's doing it with 63. Most of the malcontents are long gone. The guys left have bought in and are taking the coaching.

My summer league baseball coach played with Willie McCovey.....and he would coach us hard...
But he always said..."If I didn't care anything about you, I wouldn't say anything to correct you".

And that MAXIM is so very true...only the coaches who really care about players dare to coach them hard and then hang in there with them.

Ain't no skilled sailors developed on calm waters!
